I don’t know about you, but I’m having a hard time facing my first couple of weeks without a World Cup game for god knows how long. For the past six weeks, the first thing I’d do every morning was take a look at the day’s schedule and plan my day around the matches I needed to watch.
I can’t believe how many times we were watching some intense double-overtime battle and ended up screaming at an only-in-the-World-Cup underdog goal (Sidny Lopes Cabral equalizer in the Argentina – Cape Verde match). The best part, though, was how everyone in the world was watching the same thing at the same time, something that rarely happens outside of sports. I think I’ll miss that part the most, or, well, that and Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.
Now that the World Cup is done and dusted, I am looking for the next source of entertainment. I watched season 2 of The Night Manager, and it was excellent as expected – high production values and some intense acting. The Colombian setting was amazing as well. It was great to see some of my favorite actors from Narcos again, and it reminded me of that phase a few years ago when all I used to watch were Spanish shows.
Something else I watched was Michael, which again we enjoyed for the nostalgia value. The music was banging, and I loved the dances and watching Jaafar Jackson felt like watching Michael Jackson come to life again.
The movie touches on some of the child molesting scandals, but wisely stops the movie before it all erupted into a scandal.
I tried watching Euphoria season 3. I was a huge fan of the first two seasons, but sadly, the deaths of a couple of key cast members from the earlier seasons (RIP Angus Cloud and Eric Dane), and the complete rewrite of some of the hugely successful actors who blew up because of the success of earlier seasons (Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney) made me feel like I was watching some other (rather voyeuristic in terms of sex and violence) show entirely. And even though Zendaya was great and superb acting as usual, it definitely felt like the show had lost its zeitgeisty feel.

With Euphoria turning out to be a bit of a dud, I am a little at sea. My daughter has been giving me lots of recommendations – Heated Rivalry, Off Campus, and Obsession, but I am in a bit of a blah space.
Maybe I need to get out of the house more and find something to do.
