Top posts of 2022

Since it’s still January, I think I am allowed to continue to reflect on 2022, and this time I will focus on the top posts I wrote in 2022 that were the most popular. This is a valuable exercise while planning content to see what areas I should focus on (books, shows/movies, food, or travel). However, there is such a variety of posts that I think I am going to have to stick with the mixed bag I currently have ongoing.

Without further ado, here are my top posts:

  1. AnimalAnimal was my first book review of 2022, and it kickstarted the year with a bang.
  2. Firefly Lane: Book vs Show – This post performed ok when it was first published. But late last year, the second season of Firefly Lane came out on Netflix, and many of you readers were conflicted about whether to watch the show or stick to the book.
  3. What to binge-watch this month – Last year, I did a lot of show round-up posts on my blog, and most of them had decent views and comments. You all prefer short and snippy reviews of many shows rather than a detailed review of a single show or movie.
  4. A New Obsession: Reality TV – Yikes! Quite a few of you shared an interest in reality TV last year.
  5. The Best Television of 2022 – And yet another list of shows and movies I recommend.
  6. Top Ten Tuesday | My Spring 2022 TBR – Finally, a book list! Phew! I thought I would have to turn this blog into a streaming review blog. But more than the view stats, I got a real sense of satisfaction that I managed to finish seven of the books on this TBR list (it may not have been in Spring, but I got to them eventually in 2022). Making these lists is not an utter waste of my time!
  7. Top Ten Tuesday | 21st-Century Books I Think Will Become Classics – I put a fair effort into my book lists, and I am a little disappointed that they are not doing as well as I hoped (even with my participation in the Top Ten Tuesday memes).
  8. Cloud Cuckoo Land – Finally, another book review makes it onto the top ten list. This post never got any comments, but I promoted it on Reddit, where many people seemed to agree that this book is overrated.
  9. Help! What do I read next? – Random book post soliciting book suggestions unexpectedly vaulted into this list. Sometimes, the posts you bang out without thinking twice turn out to be the most popular.
  10. Dhankar Lake Trek – The only travel post that made the top ten list. Not going to lie; it bummed me out that my travel blogs aren’t more popular.

What I learned from this

  • Short, summary posts of what I watched were almost universally popular, followed by book lists. Maybe, I should focus more on those.
  • Book reviews don’t do exceptionally well unless I discuss the book in another forum and then link back. I need to do more of those.
  • I worked hard on my travel blog posts, but they didn’t do particularly well. I guess YouTube and Instagram are now the go-to places for any travel-related posts, or maybe I don’t write travel blogs well. It could also be that Spiti – the place I blogged about, is too out of the way and obscure. Most of my audience is from USA and Europe, and Spiti is more of a place Indians visit locally.
  • None of my personal life updates posts made it to the top ten. I am not surprised; they were never intended to be, anyway.

Did you take a look back at how your blog performed in 2022? What interesting trends did you see?
