Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books that coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining here!
This week’s theme is all about the books on our winter TBR!
Looking back at my fall reading plan, I am pretty happy with how many I have ticked off that list. I read and reviewed Mexican Gothic and The Lost Daughter – both excellent, by the way. I also read but have yet to review The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
And considering my reading record, 5 out of 10 books is not that bad! Pat on the back for me!
Looking ahead to my winter list, I am unsure if I will be as successful with Christmas on the anvil and us planning for our big year-end family vacation. But I have these books on my TBR list, and I hope to get to at least some of them.
- Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman – This and the rest of The Sandman books have been on my TBR list for the better part of this year. And now that Sandman has been renewed for a second season on Netflix (yay!), I am even more motivated to get to the books by the end of winter. Fingers crossed.
- The Doll’s House by Neil Gaiman – This is the second book in the Sandman series, and I am probably anticipating it even more than the first one.
- Dream Country by Neil Gaiman – Seriously, the last time I had so many books by a single author on this list was when I was obsessed with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
- Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami – I have lined up this book for Dolce Bellezza’s Japanese literature challenge that she usually does at the start of every year.
- Don’t you cry by Mary Kubica – A quick thriller read to make up the numbers.
- Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – I have read mixed reviews of this book, so this book isn’t that high on my list. But if you guys tell me it’s good, I will prioritize it.
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller – I seem to have a sort of addiction to mythological stories or retellings these days.
- Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – Since I loved Mexican Gothic so much, I wanted to try something else by her, and this book about vampire drug wars seems like it might be interesting.
- The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell – When I learned this book was about a member of the de Medici family, it just vaulted into my TBR list. I have a soft corner for anything Medici or Borgia, and I know I will love her writing, considering Hamnet is one of my favorite books I read this year.
- The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4 by Sue Townsend – Not going to lie; this book is another one of those quick reads that I include just to make up the numbers. Plus, I think it would make a good beach read when I am hopefully lounging at the beach in Bali at Christmas time.
What books are you looking to read this winter? Which books on my TBR would you recommend I read first? Any books you suggest I drop?
I hope you enjoy your holiday trip, and all of these books when you get the opportunity to read them.

The Song of Achilles did a lot to help me understand the Iliad, before I was just, oh it was this big war and there was a wooden horse…it’s made it easier to read other books set in that period.
I read Mythos earlier this year, and it was a pretty good introduction to Greek mythology, although it did not cover Achilles or the Trojan war. I am excited to extend my knowledge of this story.
