Top ten tuesday

This week’s theme is all about the books on our fall TBR!

Oh my goodness! Where has the time gone? I thought I had enough time to get through my summer TBR, but there were some folks who were skeptical about my finishing. And they were right! Of my very ambitious summer TBR list, I only managed to finish Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Both were decent reads but were ultimately disappointing. I will get to them in my reviews coming soon.

Looking ahead to my fall list, I will be smarter and pack it with books I know will likely be easier to finish.

Books on my Fall/Autumn TBR list
  1. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – I am dead serious about completing the books on my RIP XVII reading challenge. This is one of the books on my list, and I am keen on completing it before the end of October.
  2. The Lost Daughter by Elena Ferrante – I loved the Netflix movie; it was a bit creepy and slightly unhinged. I am not sure how faithfully it follows the book, but I am interested to see if the book delves a little bit more into the protagonist’s thought processes and motivations.
  3. The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella – Just because I need something short and easy to round off this list. I love Kinsella’s books and am looking forward to completing this over the weekend.
  4. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – His books are all over my library right now, and again, I needed something for the RIP XVII challenge. Fingers crossed, I like his writing style. I have been hesitating to pick up this book for a while now. Probably worried that he would be like another Dan Brown or James Patterson.
  5. Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman – I loved the Netflix show (Netflix is ruling my book recommendations at the moment :D), and I don’t remember the comics very well, so am planning a reread of the first three books. That is if I can get my hands on them. I have tried ordering from Amazon twice, and my order got canceled both times.
  6. The Doll’s House by Neil Gaiman is – The second book in the series. I loved this part of the show even better than the first part. Very, very creepy!
  7. Dream Country by Neil Gaiman – This is the third book and is yet to be covered by the show. It would be nice to get a head start on the story before the next season starts.
  8. Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy – Haha! This book has been on my TBR all of this year. I don’t know; there’s nothing wrong with the story; I quite like it. It’s just that once I pause, there’s nothing compelling enough for me to pick up the book again.
  9. The island of missing trees by Elif Shafak – I got tempted by the pretty cover. But now that it’s home, it’s on my TBR list, but I am not sure how interesting it will be. I will probably like it once I start it. But honestly, the other books on my list are more interesting. Should I read it/leave it? Let me know in the comments.
  10. The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Another book that has been on and off my reading list for a year or more. Want to get that in before year-end.

What books are you looking to read? Which books on my TBR would you recommend I read first, any you would suggest I drop? Which books from my list do you suggest I try first?

  1. Yes to The Lost Daughter! I liked the movie but I felt that it was really missing the inner monologue and thoughts in the present-day part of the story that could have clarified the main character’s actions and motivations.

hahah! Glad to know I am not the only one. There were too many distractions this summer!

It’s worth a watch. I have heard people say it diverges from the comics and that Sandman purists don’t like the show as much. But I thought it was really good.
