Top ten tuesday

This week’s theme is all about the books on our spring TBR!

Looking back at my Winter reading plan, I haven’t done too badly. I finished 4 books on my list. Don’t you cry by Mary Kubica, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and the sublime Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami.

I took longer than I expected with some books, but still overall, I am happy with the progress I made towards my goodreads 35 books a year goal.

This spring, I plan to read the following books (some of them left over from my winter list).

My Spring 2023 reading list
  1. The Greatest Urdu Stories ever told by Muhammad Umar Memnon – I fell for the book cover, the wonderfully thick paper, the hardcover, and the overall beauty of this book. I know next to nothing about Urdu literary tradition or the writers mentioned in the introduction. But I know I just have to read it. I expect a languid, leisurely, riveting deep dive into old-world India.
  2. Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – This book was on my winter TBR list. I had planned to read it over Halloween or in December. Unfortunately, another immersive read entered the picture, and I dropped this book to devote my attention to that one (no regrets though, totally worth it!).
  3. Spare by Prince Harry – I am generally indifferent to British royal family intrigues. Still, this fissure in the family has been controversial enough to get me interested in hearing the juicy (and I hear, quite petty) palace gossip.
  4. Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo – The first book in this series (Ninth House) was excellent, so I hope to get my paws on this second book as soon as it’s available in my local library.
  5. Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica – A quick and easy thriller. I always like to keep these kinds of books on hand for those times waiting at the doctor’s or school PTMs or any other random event where I end up spending hours doing nothing.
  6. Circe by Madeline Miller – I enjoyed The Song of Achilles so much that I feel I should try Circe as well.
  7. The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley – I did not enjoy The Paris Apartment very much. But The Hunting Party is said to be inspired by Christie’s And then there were none – one of her seminal books. So, I have to check if Foley’s book has the same suspense and mounting terror as the original.
  8. Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman – This and the rest of The Sandman books were on my TBR list all last year. I want to read these books; they are like juicy little sweets that I save for the right time. Sadly, the right time is yet to come.
  9. The Doll’s House by Neil Gaiman – This is the second book in the Sandman series, and I am probably anticipating it even more than the first one.
  10. Dream Country by Neil Gaiman – And the third one in the series.

What books do you have on your Spring TBR? Which books on my TBR would you recommend I read first? Any books you suggest I drop?

  1. I also did not like The Paris Apartment, but I am reading The Hunting Party right now and I think it is so much better so far. I also recommend The Guest List by Lucy Foley!

  2. I’ve had “Circe” on my reader for a while but haven’t gotten to it yet. One of these days! I gave “The Sandman” a try years ago but couldn’t get into it, despite Gaiman being one of my favorite authors. I think I didn’t care for the artwork. I did watch and enjoy “The Sandman” on Netflix, though, and am glad it’s coming back for another season.

It’s strange but for me a comic or graphic novel requires a lot more concentration than plain text. These books have been sitting on my shelf for months now (along with some other graphic novels). I think they just aren’t my genre of preference.

I am slowly warming up to her. I disliked The Paris Apartment, but just a few pages into The Hunting Party, and it’s not bad actually. I must look into The Guest List also.
