How to Keep Your House Cool This Summer

The heat is really being cranked up this year and trying to stay cool is probably our number one priority; otherwise, it can feel impossible to do anything! Between feeling sleepy, sweaty, and trying to stay hydrated, anything else can just feel like a step too far.

If you are working from home or are having some time off and either do not have access to aircon or want to save money on your electricity bills, you might be looking for some alternatives to help keep your home at a bearable temperature.

This piece is going to take a look at how you can do just that, so read on to find out more!

Keep Those Curtains Closed

One of the simplest ways to keep your home cool when the sun is blaring is to stop that sun from getting in through your windows. Use what you have as a shield to keep that heat out, which can prevent the room from getting warmer. If you do not have anything in place to do this, then consider investing in some shutters from The Shutter Studio. Not only are shutters the easiest to operate and clean, but they also give a classic, chic look that will last. No need to wash and maintain curtains or fiddle with blinds! Simply shut your shutters and carry on with your day.

Get Yourself a Fan

Having a fan might be an obvious suggestion, but while they blow around the hot air that you might already have in your home, you can use some excellent hacks to make the most of them.

For example, spraying water in front of your fan can help make your own DIY aircon, which can cool you down in an instant. Or, for a less labor-intensive version – place a bowl of ice in front of the fan and allow the ice-cool breeze to blow over you. Another tip if you are really warm is to have a shower in your clothes in cold water, lay down some towels on the bed, and then lie in front of the fan. This is a really useful hack for someone who needs to cool down instantly (and has a little time on their hands).

Get Your Windows Open at Night

Taking mosquitoes and other critters into account, getting your windows and doors open (where and when it is safe to do so) at night for a couple of hours can help you get that fresh air back into your home. Temperatures usually drop when the sun goes down, so you can use this opportunity to let some of that cool air in. Just remember to lock up before you go to sleep!

In the same vein, keeping your windows closed when it is hot will help you keep the temperature in your home cooler. If it is warmer outside than it is in your home, you will be essentially letting hot air in, which is the exact opposite of what you want!
