The summer holidays in our house were a complete washout this year. Thanks, Covid!
Snubnose was preparing for the all-important board exams (Grade ten). It’s been a bit of a circus. Her education for the last two years was pretty much online. Whenever the school attempted to bring the students in, there would be a Covid outbreak, and back home, they would be.
As a result, learning was a mess, and the board exams got postponed to April-end, going on till May-end. With just two days’ break, she had to be back in school to start Grade 11.
Because of her study preparations, Piglet also had to stay home, and any hope of even a long weekend break was put on hold.
It sucked, mainly because their friends (in other boards) had longer breaks and took full advantage of tourism opening up and going to the most glamorous and exotic places.
To make them feel a little less bad, I tried to take full advantage of whatever little entertainment the city could offer.
Movies
Piglet and I developed a weekend movie-watching routine. We have a projector and a big screen at home, which we hardly used earlier. But now, every Friday and Saturday was movie time. We went through all the Marvel movies and then took advantage of all the animated films on Hotstar.
Piglet and I watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 4-D cinema and had a whale of a time. The next movie we plan to see is Jurassic World Dominion when it comes out next month.
Food
Covid was an excellent time for ordering in food, but that habit lingered long after the shutdown stopped. We just got too lazy sitting at home. We did a bit of a course correction in May by going to a few new restaurants.
First, K and I went to a rather fancy dinner and drinks place (with an emphasis on the drinks). Inanna Taproom is nice but a bit too far from us to be a regular halt. Still, the food was decent, the drinks were good, and we had a pretty decent time.
Snubnose wanted to celebrate the end of her board exams with some sushi. So, immediately after her exam ended, we headed out to Daily Sushi in Indra Nagar.
FAMILY LUNCH
Smoor.
My mom visited us this week, and we decided to take her out to Smoor (again in Indra Nagar). This place is known more for its desserts and chocolates. However, we don’t mind their food either. The cuisine is simple, and because it’s multi-cuisine, there is always something for everyone.
We ordered a lot of food, but we somehow managed to do justice to everything – polishing off a pizza, spaghetti, salad, burger, calzone, sunny sider, and a dessert amongst the five of us.
The food was good, the atmosphere relaxed, and we had a good time overall.
And sadly that was that for the summer holidays! Piglet’s school starts offline on June 1st after two years of online school. He has developed a high state of anxiety about going back to school. I will be spending the next two days reassuring him and trying to sell him on the fun aspects of going to school. It will be a significant change for everyone actually – especially the morning rush to school.
Plus, my work has designated only two days as work from office days, so it will be quite a switch for me to drop the kids at the bus stop and then go back home to work.
Looking forward to the change in our routine, though!
