Make Your Living Room a Cozy Family Hangout

In a busy household, it can be difficult enough to find the perfect place to spend time together as a family. While most families will gather around the dinner table at least a few times each week, it is also good to have a space that is cosy and inviting for all. The living room is a natural choice, but is yours as comfortable as it can be?

If you would like to transform your living room into the cosy hangout that your family needs, here are a few simple things you can do to add in some comfort that will make your living room the place to be.

The Right Seating

If you have visions of your entire family gathered in one place to hang out and relax in the evenings, the first thing you need to make sure you have enough of is comfortable seating. You don’t just want a couple of chair and a loveseat for everyone to fight over. Instead, try to go for some seating that is also great for lounging with your feet up.

Depending on how much space you have to work with, a modular sofa might be just the thing. This type of seating gives you free rein to design a seating arrangement to fit your living room perfectly. You can also add in some reclining seats so that you can have some extra legroom that will store away perfectly when not in use.

A Fireplace

Nothing says comfort quite like a fireplace. The warmth from a fireplace will draw everyone in while at the same time creating the perfect design focal point for the entire room. If you already have a fireplace installed but aren’t thrilled with the façade, consider having it refaced with some gorgeous tile work.

Those who don’t have a fireplace already but are afraid of what it might cost to construct an entire chimney have some options available to them as well. Balanced flue gas fireplaces make it possible to have one installed without the hassle of a major construction project. Another added bonus to going this route is that you avoid the prospect of having a naked flame burning in your living room.

Pay Attention to Detail

Once you have the bigger pieces to your living room sorted out, it is time to bring in all the little details that will truly make the space your family’s cosy hangout. For example, if you have hardwood flooring then a comfortable area rug is a must. You also don’t forget to include plenty of throw pillows made from soft fabrics for the sofa.

Another great way to personalize the space is to have some good quality prints of family photos printed out and framed for the walls and shelves. This will add a special touch and make everyone in the family feel included. Lastly, be sure to invest in some nice window dressings to finish off the space.
