The growing popularity of adult-only holidays

Travel is something that, for many people, comes down to one holiday a year, which can be one of their biggest annual expenses and something they look forward to. It is only natural that people want to take advantage of options that allow them to tailor their experience while they are away on their trip to their preferences. For many people who don’t have kids or are older, choosing a holiday where the other guests don’t include families and children can be an understandable decision – it can mean a calmer and more relaxing environment, more sophisticated features, and entertainment at resorts or on cruises.

But what other reasons are people increasingly choosing adult-only holidays beyond just preferring adult company?

Travelling at peak times without the hassle

Many people who don’t have children avoid going on holiday during the peak travel season, the school summer holidays. While this can save them money, it can also mean some general disadvantages, such as going to resorts at the beginning or end of the season when not everything is open. Some people also want to go on holiday during the school summer holidays for work reasons, rather than because they have kids, for example, if that is the quietest time of year in their jobs. However, this doesn’t mean they want to spend their holiday surrounded by families, so they look to adult-only options to travel the way they want, even during peak times.

A more romantic experience for couples

Another reason why some people choose adult-only holidays is because they are having a special holiday as a couple, for instance, a first holiday together, a honeymoon, or to celebrate an anniversary. Cruises and luxury resorts aimed only at adults can provide this, promising candlelit meals with no noisy kids at the next table and relaxing afternoons by the pool without family entertainment and mascots ruining the mood! Alternatively, a spiritual retreat for couples can offer a more personal experience, giving you and your partner a chance to connect on a deeper level.

Better entertainment and activity options for adults

At resorts and on cruises, where people of all ages need to be catered to, fewer offers can appeal to adults than when the resort or ship only needs to think about grownups. This can mean that you’ll find more by way of luxury services such as spa treatments, and when it comes to things like evening entertainment, mealtimes, and bars, everything will be geared toward adults, too. Additionally, things like activities, water sports, and excursions that are available when you are booking an adult-only cruise or holiday package will have more availability of the things that may not be suitable for kids, meaning you can try more exciting things like scuba diving more easily.

These are just some reasons why people planning to travel as couples, adult parties, or solo are increasingly opting for adult-only designated holiday offers.

Yes, adult-only vacations can be a great deal of fun. My husband and I don’t have children, so some of our trips are adult only. On others, we go places with my brother, his wife, and their two young sons. It’s good to have balance, I think. 🙂
