Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Click on the link for more info and to find out about future topics.

This week’s theme is: Books on my Summer 2019 TBR.

I really love creating reading lists. It keeps me on track with my planned reading, and I love looking back and seeing what I have accomplished. Hence my participation in this week’s TTT, my summer TBR. Only it’s not summer here, summer’s done and dusted. This will be my monsoon TBR. And here are the books I plan to read.

Summer TBR list
  1. The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu: I read and loved The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu a couple of months ago. And now Ash and I have planned a buddy read for the second book in this awesome sci-fi series – The Dark Forest.
  2. Death’s end by Cixin Liu: If The Dark Forest turns out to be as good as I expect it to be, then I plan to continue and finish the trilogy by reading Death’s end.
  3. Dissolution by C.J.Sansom: I have been hearing a lot about this medieval mystery series set during the time of Henry VIII. And I am finally taking the plunge and picking up the first book in the series – Dissolution. I am really excited about this one!
  4. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles: I am a bit iffy on this one. I started this book last year, read about 70 odd pages, and just couldn’t get into it. I think the story of an old man stuck in house arrest in a posh hotel in Moscow just didn’t resonate with me. But so many people have praised this book to the skies that I feel I should give it just another chance.
  5. Milkman by Anna Burns: Milkman won the Man Booker prize last year. This book feels like a feminist read about a young girl who is harassed by someone called the milkman. I started it last week (part of my Spring TBR), but I put it on hold because it’s the kind of book one needs to get immersed in, and right now, I am just a tad too distracted with other stuff.
  6. Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon: I’m finally back into Outlander again. I read the first book way back when and thought I was done with the series. But now I started watching a couple of TV episodes of The Outlander and thought maybe I need a little historical romance in my reading as well.
  7. Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James: This book advertised as an African Game of Thrones was on my spring reading list as well. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to it, and so am pushing this to my summer reading list.
  8. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J.Maas: I need to get up to date on this series. That’s all. And someone please tell me this is the last book. I don’t think I can deal with more Aelin in my life.
  9. To all the boys I’ve loved before by Jenny Han: I saw the movie on Netflix, and really liked it. Cheezy, but also romantic and sweet. And now I have to read the book, because the book’s always better, right?
  10. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders: I suspect I am being too ambitious here. Would I really be able to finish so many chunksters over the space of a summer/monsoon? I don’t think so. But I am putting it here anyway. This book has been sitting on my shelf for the past year giving me guilt pangs. Maybe just putting it in my TBR officially will get me to at least try the book.

So that’s my TBR list all planned out and ready. I hope to be actually making a dent in this over the next couple of months.

What about you, what books are on your TBR list? Have you read any of the books I mentioned here? Which one would you recommend I get started with ASAP?

  2. I loved To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before! Yes the book was definitely better, though the Netflix movie was actually pretty good. It’s also a series, so more happens next.

I loved the Netflix movie. Everyone tells me the movie is better, but I do still want to read the book and find out. I can’t wait for the sequel!

  3. Having enjoyed “The Three-Body Problem”, I definitely plan to read “The Dark Forest”, but it will probably be a while — I recently decided to abandon my current book-selection process of having Calibre pick a random book from my library and start reading some that have been in there for a while without ever getting selected. Which means at this point, I’m reading books I acquired in 2015!

I just finished reading The Dark Forest and quite liked it. I preferred The Three Body Problem though. I felt the dialogues and translation wasn’t quite up to the mark in The Dark Forest. Am now going to take a short break and then start on Death’s end.

I have seen parts of TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE but I really want to read the book. I been reading self-help books along with Japanese books.

  6. I really do need to read more Sara Maas. I will have to check this out. I order and organize the YA section of the library and I know so many kids who love her. I need to know more and I’ll be checking this out for sure.

  7. Hope you enjoy all these 🙂
I loved A Gentleman in Moscow, I think it was one of my summer reads last year and I can still remember it.
I really need to get back into the Outlander series too. I only read the first book but have seen the rest of the tv series.

I loved Outlander, but the ending felt complete to me. Now that I am watching the series, I want to find out more about what happens to Jaime and Clare. Sadly, A Gentleman in Moscow is just not working out for me 🙁

I loved the movie, so I’m sure I”ll love the book as well. I didn’t realize it was a series! Can’t wait for part 2!

I really struggled with Black Leopard Red Wolf too. Glad it was in audio form because I don’t think I would have read it otherwise. I am also hoping that’s the last of the Sarah J Maas series!

I have a a lot of books that I haven’t read yet. I bought the book Outlander but still have not read it yet. So excited to read it this summer

I really liked Outlander, I went in expecting a bodice ripper type of novel, but it challenged those tropes in a very interesting and novel way.

I always have a long list on my to-read bookshelf on GoodReads. I downloaded quite a few as we are about to head out on a summer road trip, but these are all new books to me. A few are getting added to my list!

Read it, I started it this week, and I’m just racing along. Love the combo of history and mystery in the book.

You have 3 tremendous books on this list: Dissolution, Milkman and Gentleman in Moscow. My favourite of the three is Milkman – it takes a bit of time to tune into the style but really rewards the effort

Lincoln in the Bardo was actually a pretty quick read because of its structure. It’s honestly weird and took me until about halfway through to get into it, but I ended up loving it and I hope you do too!

glad to hear Lincoln in the Bardo is a quick read. I’ve been waiting for a correct mood to start it, but I should just jump into and see how it goes.
