Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s theme is:  Books on my fall TBR list.

To come up with this list, I looked through my spring and summer reading lists, to see how I’ve done against those lists. Surprisingly (I am not a person who sticks to lists), I’ve done pretty decently. And since I seem to be in a list-following mood, I thought a fall TBR would be great to control what I’m reading.

Anyway, here’s a list of books I’ve been thinking about reading.

  1. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles – This book has been on my reading list all year (spring and summer). It’s also one of those books I’ve been avoiding. Time to bump it off my TBR. If this book is still around come Winter, it will be an official DNF.
  2. Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon – After binge-reading Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager, I just had to get to Drums of Autumn, which is the next book in the Outlander series.
  3. The Good Son by You-Jeong Jeong – This year, I am really into books by far east Asian authors. I dipped heavily into Cixin Liu and science fiction. Now, I’m into trying out thrillers and crime. I’ve heard a lot of interesting things about The Good Son and I hope it lives up to my expectations.
  4. Death’s end by Cixin Liu – This is the last book in the three body trilogy (first two books reviewed here and here). It’s a bit of a chunkster, and I know I have to set aside some serious time for this one. Still I put it into my TBR to remind me that this is something I want to do.
  5. The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino – Another crime thriller that’s had pretty decent reviews.
  6. The Night Manager by John LeCarre – This was on my spring TBR. I had just finished watching the mini-series on Amazon Prime, and wanted to get to the book. It just completely slipped my mind however. I do hope to get to it this fall.
  7. Dark Fire by C.J.Sansom – This is the second book in the Matthew Shardlake series and combines two of my favorite genres – historical fiction and mystery. I read the first book in the series, and loved it so much that Dark Fire and the later books are all up on my TBR list.
  8. Beartown by Fredrik Backman  – So many people have been recommending this author and his books to me. I’ve yet to read anything written by him. But Beartown sounds promising and hence on my fall TBR it goes.
  9. Rogues by George R.R.Martin – I am in need of my GRRM fix, even if it is in the form of a single short story. Plus this anthology of short stories features some of interesting writers – Gillian Flynn, Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, and more. I will definitely be dipping into this book in the next couple of months.
  10. The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware – I read The Death of Mrs. Westaway last month and enjoyed it tremendously. I now want to read the rest of her books, and The Turn of the Key seems to be the hot book of the moment. But really, I just want to read any Ruth Ware book.

So what do you think about my reading list? Apart from a couple of chunksters, I think the rest is pretty doable. Which books do you think I should move up my TBR? Which ones should I avoid? What books are you reading this fall?

  2. I don’t think I’ve read any of those! So I’ll just be watching with my chin on my hands whilst you report back on which of these books is the best. The Ruth Ware sounds fun!

I finished it, and it was fun! Review up on the blog. Also finished Beartown, which is nice but teary.

Btw, if you have Amazon Prime, there is a Night Manager mini-series – all glam spies, and exotic locations, and beautiful people. While also being a bit sad at the same time. Ending is flat, but overall quite a nice series.

Cixin Liu was on my list this week. Now you’ve got me curious about The Good Son!

    My TTT.

I think you”ll like his books. He has big ideas, and even though I don’t love the writing and the character building, the ideas more than make up for it.

I am eagerly looking forward to it. I’ve been wanting to read it for quite some time.
