Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Spring 2019 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Click on the link for more info and to find out about future topics.

This weeks theme is:  Books on my Spring 2019 TBR.

I normally never plan my reads in advance. I am an impulse reader through and through. But this week’s top tuesday prompt made me consider my reading in a little more planned way. It’s also a great way to look forward to some great new (or not so new) reads.

  1. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami – I bought this book last year. It was an impulse buy at the airport bookstore, and it’s been sitting on my shelf unread since then. It’s a massive and heavy read (1300 pages). Last week, I told myself that I would just give it a try and then not feel guilty and force-read it if it didn’t grab me. Now, more than 400 pages in, and I just cannot stop reading.
  2. Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James – I loved A Brief History of Seven Killings very much, and I told myself I would definitely read his next novel, which was supposed to be a Game of Thrones type of book based in Africa. Well, the book’s out now, and I can’t wait to read it.
  3. Milkman by Anna Burns – This won the Man Booker award last year, and the book synopsis sounds really interesting.
  4. The Night Manager by John LeCarre – After seeing the excellent mini-series on Prime Video, I want to read the book as well.
  5. The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton – I disliked The House at Riverton with a passion, and swore off Kate Morton after that. But I recently saw The Secret Keeper at the library and thought maybe I should give her one more chance.
  6. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng – This book was all over the blogosphere last year, and it’s been getting a lot of raves. I definitely have to read it and find out whether it lives up to all the hype it’s got.
  7. I owe you one by Sophie Kinsella – Sophie Kinsella’s books are always fun and light reading. This one in particular about a self-sacrificing heroine sounds very sweet and touching.
  8. Fire and Blood by George R.R.Martin – I am actually cheating a little bit with this book. I speed read the book a couple of weeks back. But I know GRRM’s habit of dropping tiny little hints and delicious tidbits in his books, and I am planning to read it all over again soon. Yes, this history of the Targaryens is that deliciously good! It will also be perfect to read just before the new season starts.

And that’s my list of books. I actually don’t have ten books on my TBR. As I said before, I am a mood reader, but considering the heft of some of the books on my list, I think it will take the whole of Spring to finish these.

Have you read any of the books that made my list this week? Which should I give a place at the very top of my TBR pile, and what are you hoping to read over the next few months?

I really need to read more! This list is absolutely fantastic. I feel like I’ve heard of the Milkman, but I could be mistaking it for something else.

  2. Tadpoles And Mud Puddles

I haven’t read any of these. Fire and Blood sounds really good. I tend to mood read too. Sometimes I go for a few months without picking up a book. It’s been a bit but I definitely will look for that one.

    I love, love reading!!!
Lately mainly focused on personal growth and motivational books.
But from time to time Sofie Kinsella is my favorite to read and relax.

Ok, did I tell you I won the PenguinIndia Marlon James Giveaway last week? Well, I did and the very next day it seemed found myself bombarded by not so positive reviews of the book. I will be reading it of course, but I am a bit worried now! So, now I will wait for you to read it first!
Also, someone said Milkman worked better as an audiobook because of its narrative style. Wanna try that? Let me know if you do coz I just can’t stay awake through an audiobook ever!!
I seem to vaguely remember Kate Morton but obviously I didnot feel much “passion” for it since I can’t recall anything about it 😉
Happy reading as always my friend!.

Oh man! I am burning up with envy right now! Read it and let me know if it lives up to the hype.

I read one chapter of Milkman and can understand Milkman working as an audio book. However, I just don’t have the attention span to handle an audiobook. Always been a poor listener. Kate Morton is one of those authors. She’s pretty readable, but I tend to also forget the books very quickly.

I hope you like it. Sophie Kinsella has almost always worked for me when I need something light or a few laughs. Perfect Brit chick-lit!

That’s going to be my next read. I loved the book blurb and almost everyone has recommended this book to me.

It’s lovely. Very strange and intriguing. I’m relishing every bit of this book.
