Welcome to Mailbox Monday, a meme started by Marcia of To Be Continued.

I haven’t been accepting books for review for quite some time – mainly because I don’t like the pressure (that I put on myself) to review a book that has been gifted to me. However, last week I was offered one book that tempted me, and soon enough I went down the rabbit hole of accepting books for review.

The book that tempted me was The Tree Bears Witness by Sharath Komarraju. I have always loved a good Akbar and Birbal story, so when this book was advertised as a mystery story set at Akbar’s court, and that Birbal would act as a detective investigating the crime, I just could not say no.

I accepted a review copy, and finished it over the weekend. It was pretty satisfying, and now I am interested to read the other books in this series.

I heard from The Book Satchel that Miss Laila Armed and Dangerous by Manu Joseph was good. And so I accepted that as well. I am currently reading it, and it’s pretty interesting (and offensive), but I like it. I just finished Arundhati Roy’s The Ministry of Utmost Happiness and I find that Miss Laila is a good book to read as a follow-up.

The last book I accepted is The Goat Thief by Perumal Murugan. This book came to me from Juggernaut Books. The book is a selection of short stories about people who live in the margins of our society, and contains his best stories. I haven’t read any of Perumal Murugan’s work, but I have heard a lot about him. Looking forward to reading a writer who is new to me.

So these are all the books that came to me last couple of weeks.

What books did you get last week? What are you looking forward to reading?
