Must-Have Necessities for a Summer Cabin Vacation

There’s just something so special and traditional about a summer cabin vacation, where you are out in the middle of the woods, surrounded by nature and truly detached from all the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. If you’re in the midst of booking your summer cabin rental, or you’re lucky enough to own your own cabin in the woods, there are a number of necessities you’ll want to pack and bring with you to ensure it’s a fabulous vacation. You can go ahead and use this list as a handy guide while you pack.

A Few Warm Layers

Even though you plan on vacationing in the summer and the weather should be nice, it can get cool in the evenings and if it rains, the dampness can give you a chill. Packing a few warm and cozy layers will ensure that you’re comfortable, no matter how chilly it may get. This means cozy socks, comfy pants and a top, and a warm sweater you can bundle up in.

These warm layers can also come in handy if you plan on doing a campfire in the evening, as you’ll be sitting outdoors after the sun goes down.

Linens May Be Required

Whether the cabin is a rental or you own it, you will also need to think about your linens. This means your towels, sheets, blankets, and pillows. This is something you can check in the rental agreement ahead of time. Even if linens are included, some people still prefer to bring their own to make things more comfortable.

How Stocked is the Kitchen?

The kitchen is another room you will need to look into in order to find out how stocked it is. Many cabin rentals come with the necessities such as dishes, cutlery, basic pots/pans/frying pan, bottle opener, and knives, but it’s never wise to make this assumption. Instead, look at the rental agreement and then make a list of any items that aren’t included. It may be helpful to walk around your own kitchen at home and make a list of the items you use on a regular daily basis.

Don’t Forget the Outdoors Items

Of course, a big part of the cabin vacation experience is the fact you will probably be spending a fair amount of time outdoors. What this means is that you need to think about the activities you’ll be doing and pack accordingly.

If you plan on having a lot of campfires, then it may be up to you to gather the wood and chop it for the fire. If that’s the case, you can check out this splitting axe guide for information on picking the right ax. Maybe you plan on doing a lot of swimming or water activities, which means things such as blow-up floats, lifejackets, goggles, snorkels, etc., may be needed. If you plan on doing some hiking and exploring, running or hiking shoes and bug spray is a must.

Additional Items

A few more items you may need to bring include laundry soap, child safety gates (if you have young kids), chargers and power adapters, spices and herbs for cooking in the kitchen, garbage bags, and plastic bags. By keeping this guide handy, you’ll be sure to pack well.
