What a month July was! Scary and tumultuous, as well as many new beginnings for the family.
We started by celebrating K’s birthday. It was a fun bash, and we had a blast. The day started with a movie at Rex Cinema, a slightly fancier movie theatre in the heart of the city.

We saw Inside Out 2, which was fun and cute. We then went to our favorite book store, Blossoms Book House, before joining K’s friends for a lovely dinner at Foo.

Later that week, we all took a trip out of town to drop off my daughter at college. This was the first time I had seen her campus. K and my kids had seen it once before when she went to attend the interview.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the campus and her hostel. The rooms were fairly large and had a lot of light. They were nice and clean, and the weather was beautiful. I felt this was a place my daughter could enjoy and thrive in.
Still, it was extremely sad to leave her behind and come back home. Piglet spent a couple of days adjusting but was quickly diverted by a new Lego set and the dawning realization that he wouldn’t have to share stuff with his sister anymore 😂.
I returned and was swamped on all sides with work and extracurriculars for Piglet, and I had no idea which way was up. Piglet participated in a karate competition and won a bronze in his category. He was also in his school relay team, and participating in his school Annual Day program – choir and dance. Plus, his half-term exams. He’s had a busy month!

The second half of July was a bit worrying. The rains have been super heavy where Snubnose is, and her hostel flooded twice this month. When I visited the campus, I loved how scenic it was, with the river running just by her hostel, but the flip side was the chances of flooding. Thankfully, Snubnose was okay, but I look forward to her coming home next weekend. I want to ensure she’s well-stocked with snacks in case her hostel mess closes again and possibly better footwear and clothing for the weather.
This month ended with my birthday celebration, which was fairly quiet. K got a cake for me to cut at home and there was a wonderfully worded card from Piglet that brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t really need to do anything major, but I loved catching up with a friend at The Lotus Pavilion in ITC Gardenia with some champagne.

I didn’t read much this month—just The Maid—and binge-watched Monk. Oh, and I watched A Family Affair on Netflix.

I can’t remember the last time I watched a romcom, and A Family Affair is so dumb and sweet and exactly what I needed. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese, but Zac Efron is not a bad actor. It’s weird watching everyone’s faces, though—if I were that famous, I’d hire someone just to tell me when to stop with the plastic surgery because I have a feeling they’re just not used to hearing no.
And that was my month! August also promises to be super-enjoyable. Snubnose and my mom are visiting, and I am looking forward to spending quality time with them.
