Top ten tuesday

This week’s theme is all about the books on our Summer TBR!

I have been on a bad reading streak since my dad passed away December last year. From my spring TBR, I read The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (very comforting), and The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin (different, but not as good as I hoped it would be).

Knowing that I am in a reading funk, I am still listing books I’d like to read – fully understanding that I may actually only get to two or three books from this list.

My Summer Reading List
  1. The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles – My daughter has got me interested again in teen romance this summer. And with my reading slump, maybe some light, frothy romance will do the trick?
  2. The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas – More romance. Who even am I?
  3. The Book of Lost and Found by Lucy Foley – I wasn’t that impressed by her mystery novels (The Paris Apartment and The Hunting Party), but I’d still like to give this book a shot.
  4. Learned by heart by Emma Donoghue – This is from my spring TBR, and I will get to it this summer, I swear.
  5. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke – Another one that’s been on my top ten reading lists from last year. I intended to read it this spring, but I read just too much Fantasy, and needed a break from the genre.
  6. The Maid by Nita Prose – What’s summer without at least one gripping mystery? And this one has pretty good reviews.
  7. Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder by Salman RushdieRushdie used to be one of my favorite authors, but I haven’t read him in a while. I am looking forward to this slim memoir of his life after the knife attack.
  8. The Awakened Kingdom by N.K.Jemisin – This is book 3.5 of The Inheritance Trilogy. I read the first three books in the series this spring, and needed a short break. I am now ready to return to this world.
  9. The Body: A Guide for Occupants by Bill BrysonBryson always makes the most mundane facts fascinating. I look forward to this deep dive on the human body.
  10. Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami – I had initially thought of reading this book for the Japanese literature reading challenge. But after my dad’s demise, I just wasn’t in the mood for anything that required even a little bit of work. I honestly don’t think I”ll get to this book this summer, but it’s definitely on my TBR list, and I will get to it some time.

What books do you have on your Summer TBR? Which books on my TBR would you recommend I read first? Any books you suggest I drop? I really don’t want to embark on anything too long or serious.

I read Bryson’s The Body the other summer and it was utterly fantastic, utterly jampacked with fascinating facts. If you do get to it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
