Mykonos was a vibe. We spent two days there, and though it’s known for its wild party scene, we just chilled in our beautiful hotel, enjoying the wonderful sunsets and the booze and exploring Mykonos town. We were feeling a little lazy. And I have never been the party-hopping type.
The adventure to Mykonos started with the ferry ride there.
I obviously didn’t do my research properly. I was expecting a small open boat, thinking Mykonos was quite close to the port of Athens. That isn’t the case, all the islands are quite far off, and you need to budget a good amount of travel time to get from one island to the other.
Now I understand what people meant when they said Mykonos is known for its winds.
We reached Mykonos by noon, checked into our lovely hotel, and immediately set off for Mykonos town.
Mykonos town is the place to be. All the iconic photos that you see of Mykonos on the internet? Yes, they are all taken in this fairly tiny, little town.
We walked through the town, soaking in the atmosphere, window shopping (it was too expensive to do anything but that), slowly making our way to the key party place Little Venice – where the thing to do is get some prime seats, drink copiously, and watch the mesmerizing sunset.
We eventually made our way to the high point, where the windmills were.
I”ll be honest. The windmills are pretty, but there’s not much to get excited about. They were working windmills in the past, but they don’t seem to be in use now. Well, except for one, which is now an Airbnb. Looking at the interior photos, I must say it seems like a wonderful place to stay. That is if you can get a room – it seems to be booked almost permanently.
By mid-afternoon, we had fully explored the town and decided where to watch the sunset – Caprice in Little Venice.
We sat by the sea, waves lapping below us, and enjoyed drinks. This was the trip where I discovered the joys of an Aperol Spritz and ordered it everywhere I went.
The sunset was heavenly!
The next day involved a half-day tour to nearby Delos Island in the morning (fodder for another blog post). The afternoon was mostly spent snoozing by the beautiful pool in our hotel. We had originally planned to book a car and drive through the beautiful southern part of Mykonos but were too pooped from the heat to do anything very active.
In the evening, we returned to Little Venice for more drinks and to enjoy one last sunset at Mykonos!
In short, Mykonos was one hell of a relaxing time, sandwiched between crazy hectic fun in Athens and Santorini!
This is such a gorgeous post. I want to visit Greece now. Can’t wait for your next posts.
thank you, thank you! It was a once in a lifetime experience! And yes, more posts coming soon!
