Normally, I would not even bother blogging about all the fun we had on my birthday—simply because going to a restaurant and then the park is pretty basic when you think of it. It’s what I have been doing for years and years.
But nothing is normal this year. This summer, we had a pretty severe lockdown—we just about emerged out of it in time for K’s birthday earlier in July.
We kept his birthday simple because we weren’t sure how safe it was to venture outside. We just gave him his coffee presents, a nice card, cut a lovely cake, and ordered the most delicious sourdough pizza for dinner from Lavender Bakery by Fresh Pressery.
By the time my birthday rolled around, we had gone through about three weeks of easing up restrictions and felt brave enough to venture out a bit.
For lunch, we went out to my favorite Italian restaurant – Toscano.
Snubnose and I like to take photos of our food. Piglet and K just went straight ahead and stuffed their faces with all the delicious food!
After lunch, the kids wanted to vent off a little steam at the arcade. K and I were worried about the crowds, but I couldn’t bear to see their disappointed faces. They have been so good about all the stay-at-home regulations, and we haven’t had a fun outing in months. So, we thought we’d peep in and see if it looked safe. The place was practically empty, so the kids played games and had a good time!
After we emerged from the mall, we briefly debated heading home. But it was a beautiful sunny day – after months of rain and cold. So we headed out to a park nearby.
We started on a long, rambly walk and even planned to visit the attached nursery when the first raindrops fell. Then, it was a mad scramble out of the park, back into the car, and on our way home.
The celebrations didn’t stop, though. While we were out, my mom had couriered over a cake, chocolates, and some flowers for me.
It was a surprise. We weren’t home when it arrived, so the courier left it with a neighbor. It was embarrassing to see her curious looks when I came to collect it. She thought it was Snubnose’s birthday and was preparing to wish her. I interrupted and said it was my birthday, and she gave me this weird look – does this grown-ass woman still get a birthday cake and chocolates from her parents?
Anyway, I defiantly collected the cake, and we had one more cake-cutting at home.
We then decided to watch a movie, relax, read a book, and wind down for the night after an exciting day. Now, as Covid cases rise again in Bangalore, and with mini-containment zones throughout the city, it may be some time before we head out again. So blogging about these nice memories now so that I remember them for the next few months of lockdown!
How are things going regarding Covid where you live? Are things back to normal? Or is everything starting to tighten up again?
