Lockdown is almost over, but right now visiting places such as cinemas, bars, or cafes is still a bit risky and not recommended by many people. Added to that, wearing a mask to some of these places is a real buzz-kill for many social groups.
So what else is there to do?
Well, the answer lies in the tool you’ve been using for the last year or so to keep in touch with your mates—Zoom—but not how you know it!
There’s no reason to hold another boring group chat where everyone is busy checking their phones and Facebook instead of chatting. It’s time to use Zoom (or any other video platform of your choice) to have some real fun with your friends again!
Here are six activities you can try with your mates over Zoom today. Enjoy!
An Online Escape Room
Escape rooms are a great way to get to know your friends and work on your teamwork skills, but they’ve been off the social menu; thanks to COVID.
Now you can do an online escape room and work your way through several mysteries and puzzles in order to get out of your room.
This Online Escape Room London site shows how online escape rooms can work with a VR headset. Amazing!
Play I-Spy
No, seriously, remember that game you used to play in the car with your annoying siblings when you were a kid? Time to transform it into the virtual world! This can work better if your friends have been to your house, but equally, it is fun to play with a few beers as your mates need to guess what on earth you’re talking about without being able to “see” your place.
Cards Against Humanity
Everyone’s favorite game for horrible people!
There are a few online versions of this horrible classic, including All Bad Cards, a great Cards Against Humanity dupe that you and your friends can play together collaboratively.
Give it a go, be weird, be irreverent, and be horrible for an hour or so. No one will judge you!
Watch-Along Drinking Game
Have you ever tried the Rocky Horror Drinking Game? How about the Star Wars Drinking Game? In truth, there are thousands of drinking games out there and you can play them with movies or TV shows, too. Playing virtually with your mates works best if it’s a live broadcast—but don’t forget to drink responsibly folks!
Collaborative Storywriting
Looking for some more sedate fun for “sensible” groups of friends, why not try some collaborative creative writing?
Open up a Google Doc and send the link round to your friends, decide on the “rules” of your creative writing experience and use some prompts to create your next collaborative masterpiece.
Get A Jam Session Going
This is actually much harder than it seems thanks to the lag of technology, but even if each person plays their part separately and you mix it together later, this is a fun activity to do with the right group of mates.
Top tip: Get the drummer to drum out a rhythm that everyone can stick to first!
