I’ve been reviewing books on this site for the past 10 years or so (started blogging in 2009). I thought it might be fun to look back through all my year-end lists and find out the books I well and truly loved. Cutting the list to 10 was no easy task, but you deserve to know which ones were truly better than the rest.
Here’s a list of books that truly thrilled, inspired, or moved me in some extraordinary way (listed in no particular order).
- The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
- The Secret History by Donna Tartt
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
- Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the end of the World by Haruki Murakami
- iQ84 by Haruki Murakami
- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
- Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
- A Game of Thrones by George R.R.Martin
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

What are the books that defined the past decade for you?
The only one of these I have gotten around to reading was The Handmaid’s Tale and I didn’t get to the end of that, it was a bit too slow for my taste. The Secret History is on the list though.
I just loved the feminist slant of The Handmaid’s Tale, so yeah, i liked it more for the ideas than the story.
The Secret History is fun though. I just loved every bit of that book. I think you would like it too!
Wonderful list! I loved The Secret History and The Handmaid’s Tale! I want to read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The Goldfinch! Thanks for sharing your favourites list!
I think you will love these books, Vishy 🙂
