October and November 2019 Updates

October (and now November) were the weirdest and most unproductive months of the year for me. I flaked out on everything – work, friends, family, blogging, and simply withdrew into an uncommunicative hermit (doing the most minimal communication and public interaction possible).

I barely read anything. Nothing held my interest. I slogged through the 4th book in the Outlander series – Drums of Autumn before deciding it just wasn’t worth my time.

The sad thing was nothing held my attention these past two months. I did some rereading (mostly old Agatha Christie, Georgette Heyer, and the odd romance). I did a lot of cleaning up – cleared up a whole bunch of unread books and gave them to charity. I thought I would feel good about getting rid of them, but I don’t, I actually feel pretty shitty about them.

So, overall, it was a pretty negative couple of months when it came to books. I’m really hoping this phase comes to an end pretty soon. I have high hopes because I have some pretty interesting books on my bookshelf now at home. Of course, I purchased quite a few

Last month, I mentioned that I had started watching Narcos. Well, in October, I finished it – zipping through the third season of Narcos, and then binge-watching the entire first season of Narcos: Mexico.

Another series I watched and finished is CBI Strike based off the Cormoran Strike series by J.K.Rowling. It was good enough for me to finish all the seasons, but also very forgettable. I do think I like the TV series more than the books. So much of the flab was cut out without losing any of the story.

I think I also liked the characters on screen way better than the books.

Strike and Robin more endearing in the TV series

And that was pretty much it. I think the quality of Narcos was so impressive that nothing really interested me much after that.

October was a busy month with festivals galore. We celebrated Dussehra and Diwali. The end of the month brought Halloween. A whole bunch of long weekends and leave – tons of food and festivities. I guess this is what really wreaked havoc with my normal blogging schedule.

I spent Dussehra and Diwali with my family (Dussehra was in Chennai), for Diwali, my parents came down here.

We had a blast!

End of October was Halloween and time for trick or treating. Snubnose went as a gunshot victim and Piglet went as Phantom of the Opera.

November was pretty much wedding season. It seemed all I did this month was attend a lot of weddings, eat a lot of food, and dress up a lot.

Just a quick sample of us all decked up in ethnic wear (something that is a rarity in our household).

The last thing that happened in November was sports day for Piglet. He participated in only one race and won it hands down. He was so proud of his achievement and so were we all 🙂 .

I hardly blogged this month. I put out a half-hearted blog post with pics from Chennai.

And that’s pretty much it!

Overall a fun if not very productive couple of months for me. I’m hoping I am a little more on top of things in December. I have my doubts though.

How have you guys been? And for my readers in US, wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
