Life Lately: Shopping Reading, Watching

I’ve been swamped with work the last couple of weeks, so haven’t been able to get any kind of weekly life update posts in.

What would I have discussed anyway? My workload?

Anyway, things now look slightly better, and I am giving a quick look back into what went on this week.

Watching

Frankly, I haven’t been doing anything beyond some Gossip Girl binge-watching on Netflix – needed to switch off my brain for a bit and simply enjoy some eye candy.

I never watched Gossip Girl the first time round. I never do watch serials in real-time anyway (GOT is an exception). But the below photo and this article in Vanity Fair prompted me to check it out, and it’s just note-perfect for the mood I am in.

And gosh, I never realized Blake Lively is this gorgeous. I’ve seen her in a couple of movies – The Town and The Shallows, but she really shines in Gossip Girl.

Shopping

Apart from Gossip Girl, the only other thing I’ve been doing is online window shopping. Window shopping because like I mentioned earlier, I don’t actually plan on buying any clothing when I am in between sizes. Still, that hasn’t stopped me from browsing.

Here are some cool things I saw and liked.

These striped palazzo trousers from Mango are the bomb. I love how casual and comfortable they look. Perfect vacation wear and if I was planning a beach vacation any time soon, pants like these would be my first choice.

I also liked this striped, ripped, cropped sweater from Hollister on the right in the above photo. It’s just my style. I have a longer, more conservative version that I wear all the time for work. The material is warm but not too warm. I can’t say I am a fan of the rips in the 2017 version, but for the price it seems like a good option to have. And no, you don’t have to wear it in that off-shoulder style like the model.

Books

I’ve also been reading but not a lot. I started on the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I’m midway through Cinder, and it’s umm…interesting, I guess. This series of books is based on fairy tales like Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, and so on, but it’s set in the distant future. Here Cinderella is a Cyborg, and though there is a ball and a prince and all that stuff, the story itself is very different from the basic Cinderella fairy-tale.

I am not yet sure if I love this series yet. The direction of the story is a little too out there for me, and it’s not engrossing me enough right now. The plan is to read the first two books and give it an honest shot. But no pressure to finish the series (it’s four books as far as I know).

Last week, I started and finished Gone Baby Gone by Dennis Lehane. Here’s a book vs movie post I scrambled to put together last week.

Family

On the home front, things are pretty quiet. But I suspect they won’t be for long. Dussehra holidays are on for the next two weeks.

Next week Snubnose is gone for an adventure camp, and I am in the thick of packing things for her. She is in the thick of finishing up her school projects before the end of the week. So, last weekend was mostly just stress and work.

Next week is going to be stressful with Piglet all alone in the house with us. He’s not going to camp and he’s going to be bored and irritable if I don’t find any suitable activities for him. I’m also planning to take a day off and spend some alone time with him now that work has eased up a little.

So, that’s been my week, folks. A slow nothing much happening kinda week. This weekend though is going to be breakneck speed – two blog events, a birthday party for Piglet’s friends, sending off Snubnose to camp. Oof, I definitely need a holiday next week.

How’s your week been? What’s the weekend looking like?
