One of the hottest trends for the summer of 2015 is the kimono. This stylish fashion piece for women has been around in one form or another for since the Japanese first introduced it as a form of clothing. But this summer, the trend has really exploded and you can see so many different versions in almost all the shops in the malls.
Styling a Kimono
According to Lagaci.com, the word kimono literally means thing to wear, and it fulfills that purpose well. In fact, women can wear kimonos regardless of the season because they are so versatile. Kimonos can be made of heavier materials and be worn like coats or sweaters, but they can also be made of light, airy material and worn as sheer cover ups or shawl-type accessories. Vogue reports that many fashion designers such as Céline, Gucci, and Marni showed various styles of kimonos on the runways. While most of these designs were paired with over-sized belts used to complete the look, it’s really up to you how you want to style your kimono and wear it during the hotter months of the year.
I am particularly interested in the floral kimono style, some examples of which are here.
Styling a Summer Kimono
I am thinking there are several ways to style this sort of kimono.
- Crop Top and Short Skirt or Shorts Combo
A kimono is perfect to wear over a short skirt or a pair of shorts when you’re wearing a crop top. Crop tops and bralettes show off a lot of skin, even for the summertime. To balance out the amount of skin you’re showing in outfits like these, Gurl.com suggets throwing on a long, light kimono.
- Bathing Suit Cover Up
When headed to the beach or the pool, you will likely want something fun and freeing to wear over your bathing suit. A kimono can give you the right amount of coverage while still showing off that body you worked so hard to maintain over the winter.
- Spice Up a Classic
Summer is a time for carefree dressing, making it the ideal occasion to break out classic looks like jeans or denim shorts and a white tee. In these situations, a kimono can give you that extra something to help you stand out from the crowd without having to over accessorize.
- Add a Splash of Color
Sometimes, a monochromatic look just makes sense. But when you feel like your outfit is just a little too humdrum, tossing on a kimono can help upgrade your looking to something even more sophisticated. By wearing a kimono that has accent colors matching your chosen monochrome color, you can seamlessly add another dimension to your outfit.
So, these are the several ways I think a kimono would rock. What about you? Are you buying into this trend?
I love them. Specially because of their ability to make my flab disappear temporarily from sight 😉
@disqus_dD3avLKEEE:disqus that’s one reason why I love them too 🙂
