This movie is based on the book, I am Number Four written by Pittacus Lore. I haven’t read the book, so I don’t know if it is true to the book or not. The movie though is pretty rocking!
The story is about an alien with supernatural powers, he is the fourth of nine survivors of a brutal attack on his planet Lorian by the evil Mogadorians ( I hope I have the spellings right :D). All these survivors are hiding out on planet Earth. However, the Mogadorians have now tracked them to planet Earth and now they are set to kill all the Lorians (each of whom have some super-natural power). They successfully kill numbers 1, 2, and 3, and now their sights are set on Number 4.
Number 4 and his keeper warrior are on the run. They finally end up in Paradise, Ohio where Number 4 (alias John Smith) joins school. He is supposed to keep a low profile, but very soon he ends up finding a girlfriend, friend, dog, and enemy…all of whom play a part in the climatic fight with the Mogadorians who find him earlier than expected.
My Review
This is a movie that could have gone wrong so easily – a battle between super-powered aliens on Earth is a plot that can look hackneyed very fast. However, the very fresh star cast (Alex Pettyfer as Number 4 aka John Smith), Dianna Agron as his love interest, and Timothy Olyphant as John Smith’s keeper do a great job in keeping the material fresh and exciting.
I loved the background music score and the cinematography, and of course, how can I resist a movie that has an alien dog? Oops, too much sharing here :). And oh yes, the chemistry between Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron is smoking. Whew!
I also loved that the movie wasn’t non-stop action that I was fearing. It has its slow, romantic parts, which I loved. K found these bits boring, but he loved the last action-packed finale.
All in all, a fun movie that we all enjoyed watching. My only regret was that this movie wasn’t in 3-D, the special effects and stunts would have been doubly awesome then!
Take a look at the trailer in my header, you just might want to watch the entire movie 🙂
I didn’t love this book, but the movie sounds like a lot of fun!
@S.Krishna: I suspect I wouldn’t have loved this book either.
I generally have much lower expectations in a movie. Good-looking kids, some special effects, not too long…I am easy to please 🙂
Good review

@Young1: Thanks, let me know how you like the movie 🙂
Glad to have come across someone else who actually enjoyed this movie! I’ve already read a couple of other blog posts that weren’t exactly positive … but I really enjoyed this movie! I’m hoping for a sequel!
