Cherrypicked recipes

Our friend group were all generally moaning about the difficulty of cooking a variety of dishes for kids and how monotonous it had become, when someone pointed us in the direction of Cherrypick.

I came home and immediately downloaded the app to explore the possibilities, and it’s pretty good. What the app does is solve for that perennial mental question – what’s for dinner and what to buy for the week.

It’s a super easy app. You browse through a variety of menus available – plenty of options for all dietary types and cuisines. I showed the app to my kids, and they quickly chose meals that caught their interest. Then, all I had to do was select the necessary ingredients, add them to my basket, and send them to Tesco or Sainsbury’s. I can then choose to collect it in the shop or have it delivered.

There are several websites/apps like this that I have tried, but so far, I really love Cherrypick for the quality and ease of its recipes. I followed the recipes pretty closely and they worked beautifully.

Here are some of the things I cooked.

Daal makhani

Pasta with kale, tomatoes, and chickpeas

Spicy spaghetti with tomatoes, basil, pine nuts, and red peppers

All the recipes were simple, easy to make, and a good blend of protein, carbs, and veggies. My favorite of the lot was this chickpeas one. Recipe available here.

Chickpeas in harissa paste topped with yoghurt with dill and capers

All the meals were a hit, but we are definitely going to be repeating the chickpeas and daal makhani pretty soon.

If there is one downside to this app, it is that it’s closely tied to Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores, so if you want to buy from another store, you can’t go directly via the app. Also, and I personally don’t find this an issue, but all the features are app only, and you need to pay to get access.

Normally, I don’t pay for apps at all. But I have made an exception for this one – the time and money savings are totally worth it. Because I am able to plan my cooking in advance, it’s very easy for me to buy just what’s required and nothing more. The app also tracks what I may already have in my pantry, so it suggests only the necessities, plus there are a number of swaps possible. Added to that, the variety of cuisines, and the frequent updation of recipes, I think I am good to go for the rest of the year.

Now, my weekly shop is so much more efficient, and my small fridge is optimized to the max. Just loving how easy and streamlined cooking has become in the last couple of weeks ❤️.
