I had gifted Scattered Showers by Rainbow Rowell as a birthday present to my daughter a couple of years ago. Last week while cleaning out cupboards, I found this in her book stash, and casually leafed through it.
The first thing that struck me, was this is such a pretty book! The layout, fonts, illustrations, colors, and everything in it is just right for a person (who’s a casual reader) to pick up this book and read.

Anyway, it got me curious and I started to read.
About Scattered Showers

Rainbow Rowell has won fans worldwide by writing about love and life in a way that is true.
In her first collection, she gives us nine beautifully crafted love stories: a girl meets a boy camping outside a movie theater; best friends debate the merits of high school dances; a prince romances a troll; a girl romances an imaginary boy; and Simon Snow himself returns for a holiday adventure.
It’s a feast of irresistible characters, hilarious dialogue, and masterful storytelling—in short, everything you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell book.

My Review
This is a short story collection of nine love stories. Although the stories are quite different, they are all sweet and tender.
As with all short story collections, I liked a few more than the others. My favorites from this collection were Midnights, Kindred Spirits, and Snow for Christmas. The latter one was about Baz and Simon, characters my daughter loves from Rowell’s Simon Snow books. I loved them in this short story, so I can’t wait to try the full series.
I found the last story, In Waiting, to be rather unique and innovative. This short story consisted of characters made up by writers as if the characters were inside the writer’s head as they were being formed and developed. The concept struck me as so original.
Moreover, this book is quite pleasant to the eyes. The cover, endpapers, and illustrations are gorgeous!
Overall, I had a nice time reading this book. The stories were easy to read and were enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend this book!
