Top Blog Posts of 2024

Hello, and Happy New Year! There were 40,029 visitors to my blog last year, which blows my mind. THANK YOU for visiting and reading. Also whenever I see anyone bragging – frankly – about numbers, I meanly want to unsubscribe and stop on the spot. PLEASE DON’T! I promise I won’t brag again for ages. My lips are sealed and my beak is zipped. But really, thank you.

It’s always interesting to look back on my blog stats in the new year to see how the blog performed. I kind of lost interest in the numbers a few years back—it was dispiriting to see readership dip consistently, but it looks like something changed during the pandemic. Maybe Instagram lost its lustre, and people got back into reading as well? I see so many articles saying book sales were shooting up last year. It makes sense since most of my top blog posts from 2024 were book reviews.

So, overall my blog had 40,029 visitors in 2024. Was it better or worse than previous years? I can’t particularly say as Jetpack has frustratingly gone into a paid model and it seems I can’t compare YOY traffic like I used to unless I pay for it, which I am not inclined to do.

Anyway, I’d like to think that numbers have improved 😊. And here are my top five most popular posts that I published last year:

  1. My review of The Perfect Couple – a murder mystery starring Nicole Kidman was easily the most-visited post. I binge-watched the series the day it came out and published my post almost immediately after, which got it a lot of eyeballs. Timing really is everything.
  2. My book review of The Cider House Rules by John Irving indicates that when it comes to a classic, timing doesn’t really matter. Or perhaps the topic of abortion was very topical last year, and hopefully, my book review got more people to read this book and think more deeply about their beliefs and why they feel a particular way. Arguments for and against are both outlined quite clearly in this book, and the discourse is very balanced, I feel. Other than that, it’s also just the most beautiful, heartfelt, well-written story.
  3. Oddly, my rant about The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton got a lot of eyeballs – maybe people really gravitate to honest reviews that are not afraid to dump on a book.
  4. But you also love it when I rave about a book – The Body: A Guide for Occupants by Bill Bryson.
  5. Last comes Learned by Heart by Emma Donoghue. One thing all my top book reviews have in common is quotes from the book. They probably surface better in Google. This is a reminder to myself to do this more often in my book reviews.

So, those were my top 5 published posts of 2024.

In general, my most visited posts (regardless of publication date) are:

  1. My travel post on what to do if you have a quick 48 hours in Shanghai
  2. My book review of Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane
  3. My book vs show comparison of Big Little Lies
  4. Book reviews of the first two books in the Susan Ryeland series by Anthony Horowitz
  5. Book review of Don’t you cry by Mary Kubica

Thank you again, and hoping to build on this trend in 2025 😀
