Last month, I embarked on the Readers Imbibing Peril Reading Challenge, with full gusto. I had three books on my list and finished two of them.
The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager was the first book I read, and it was great – twisty and unexpected. It starts out clichéd, but the ending goes all over the place. I loved that Sager wasn’t afraid to go all the way cuckoo with the book.
The second book – The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor, was one of the best horror/crime books I read this year. Again, twisted, cunning, and all things unexpected. Awesome, and I loved it so much that I went and got The Chalk Man – her first book, which everyone tells me is even better! I may end up reading it in October and including it in my RIP challenge.
The third book I have on my plate is Girl A by Abigail Dean. My aunt read it and recommended it highly, but I feel a bit too affected by all the horror/crime that’s on my plate. And this book feels too dark and true crime-y for me. I think in my current mood, I want more of a horror/supernatural vibe than a serial killer thing.
So, yes, most of September was devoted to the RIP Reading Challenge. In between, I read Violeta by Isabel Allende as a sort of palate cleanser 😁.
How has your September reading been? Are you participating in the RIP Challenge? It seems to be fairly quiet on Twitter and the blogs this year.
