Top ten tuesday

This week’s theme is about the series of books we want to start/catch up on/finish!

I am very poor at reading series books – especially when I start a series that’s not yet complete. So this post is my attempt to catalog the state of my series reading and make resolutions to start/catch up/ finish or maybe just give up.

With that said, here’s my list.

Books on my Fall/Autumn TBR list
  1. Harbinder Kaur by Elly Griffiths – This is a series of three murder mysteries investigated by Detective Kaur. What intrigues me about the series is that it does not seem to be in first person, and all three crimes seem closely related. However, I haven’t read any Elly Griffiths novel until now, so I put this series on hold. I hesitate to embark on a series before trying a standalone novel to see whether I like the author’s writing style.
  2. Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck – I saw this YA Fantasy series in my local lending library and thought, hmm…could be interesting for my daughter. And then I read the book blurb and thought, heck; this could be interesting for me. I am on a waiting list to get the first book in the series, and I can’t wait to start on it.
  3. The Wren Hunt by Mary Watson – Another YA Fantasy series that intrigues me. Unfortunately, only two books are out, and I think I’d rather wait for the series to complete before I binge-read it all in one go.
  4. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir – Can you sense a pattern here? I have loads of Fantasy novels on my TBR lists.
  5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Yep, still left unread. There was so much hype around these books when they first came out that I thought I’d wait for the dust to settle. And then never went back to them. I have serious FOMO, but I am so far behind the curve that I wonder if it makes sense to try reading these books now.
  6. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones – Jenny from Reading the end recommended these books a long time ago. I have them on my shelf, but something newer and shinier always takes priority.
  7. The Haunting of Sunshine Girl by Paige McKenzie – Promises to be a spooky, yet not too scary, YA trilogy.
  8. Tamarind by Nadia Aguiar – This trilogy of books about a magical island seems to skew on the younger side of YA (I just looked it up, it’s middle-grade). Still, I like the magical premise, and look forward to something a little innocent and sweet.
  9. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman – I have read a few of the books (some out of order), but I want to sit down and reread the entire series from start to finish. There are a lot of books, and they are a bit hard to procure where I live, so this may be an idle wish.
  10. Adrian Mole by Sue Townsend – I first heard of this series when I read the Bridget Jones books. I love self-deprecating British humor and books in the form of letters or diary entries, so this series sounds right up my alley.

As you can see, I am very lazy about reading series. I always lean toward standalone novels as they are just one-and-done. But if I had to pick and choose a series from the above list, which would you recommend, I start with first?
