Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books that coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining in here!
This week’s theme is about books I wish had an epilogue. I didn’t have strong feelings about the topic, so I was happily going to skip it.
Then I saw that Andge had expanded the topic to include standalone books that she wished had a sequel. And yes, I have some big thoughts about that.
Here’s my list of books that I wish had a sequel.
- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – I would be so up for more of Amy and Nick’s shenanigans while they try to one-up each other. I wonder who would finally come on top?
- Three Women by Lisa Taddeo – I would love to know how all three women are faring now. Is Sloane still married? Did Maggie receive justice? Did Lina’s husband discover her infidelity?
- Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty – This is her first book, which was note-perfect. I fell in love with the Kettle sisters and would love a second book on them.
- The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty – I wouldn’t like a sequel to this book exactly, but I’d love if the existing epilogue were fleshed into a new book with a focus on Tess and Will and their story after his affair with her cousin.
- The Martian by Andy Weir – I love Mark Watney, and I wouldn’t mind reading another book about him stranded on a planet (maybe Jupiter or Neptune).
- An Infamous Army by Georgette Heyer – This is primarily a book about the battle of Waterloo. While it’s a fantastic recount of the action, it has two very intriguing but somewhat unfinished love stories. I’d love a book that would expand on these two couples. Unfortunately, the only option is fan fiction since the author is dead.
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt – It seems weird that I’d want a sequel to this massive chunkster. But I love Theo and Boris and wouldn’t mind another story (somewhat short) about their adventures.
- Light a Penny Candle by Maeve Binchy – A book featuring some fascinating characters with one of the most abrupt endings I have read. I loved the book; I hated the ending. I’d love a sequel that brings some closure to the main protagonists.
- The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly – I loved the book and am pretty surprised there are no direct sequels. Yes, the main character Mickey Haller does appear in other Connelly books, but he is more like a supporting character when he should be leading man material.
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – I would love a story about Jack growing up and returning to the graveyard to meet all his old friends – the ghosts. I think it would make quite a charming tale.
What do you think of my list? What books/characters do you want more of?
I wouldn’t mind more from The Graveyard Book. 🙂
I know. Such a sweet story!
I agree about Gone Girl and would also love to see an epilogue for The Graveyard Book- What about one where Jack has lived his life and then returned to the graveyard as a ghost himself?
that would be so sad 🙁
I so want to see what happened to Amy and Nick after Gone Girl. It seems that mutual destruction is entirely inevitable and I want to see that go down!

yes! I have heard rumblings about a sequel from Gillian Flynn. I hope the rumors are true!
Ooh I hadn’t heard that but I would love to read one!
My husband and son would agree with The Martian. Great tweak for today’s topic.
thank you!
I’d love to read a sequel to The Martian. Have you read Project Hail Mary, the book that Weir released last summer? It was a good one, too.
