You and your loved ones spend more time at home than you have ever done before. A beautiful home that is full of love and warmth is what you are after. However, creating a warm and welcoming home does not often happen by chance. It takes effort, planning and hard work to create warm, and welcoming spaces. So, with this in mind, where do you need to start, and what should you be focusing on first?
Add Soft Lighting and Focus on Natural Lighting
The lighting that you use within your home can affect how rooms feel and look. Even if you have a lot of natural light coming in through windows, you also have to be conscious about the lighting that you are using. Using soft and warm light bulbs, as opposed to brighter daylight bulbs, is what you first need to focus on. You then have to focus on using different types of lighting, and not just focusing on spotlights. Adding warmth to any room is much easier to do when you focus on layering lights. For example, softer lighting could be sidelights on walls (rather than one central light) together with occasional lamps on tables and sideboards (and other pieces of furniture) which can give you the look and feel you are after.
Be Conscious About What You Are Doing
When you are creating a beautiful and warm home it can be easy to get lost in the project, and you may find it easy to lose your focus. For example, you may be asking yourself which doors are best to use? Is wallpaper a yes or no? Or, you might be asking what color palettes and themes to use. Planning out what you want to do will help to eliminate a lot of these questions you have. Planning out what you want spaces to feel like and look like will help you to create a welcoming and warm home (on any budget). When you are conscious about what you are doing, and what you are adding, you will create a home that you love for many years to come.
Create Personal Spaces
A home that is not personal is not going to be warm and welcoming. You need to focus on creating personal spaces, and on adding personal touches to as many spaces as you can. When you create personal spaces, that are designed and created around what you want, you will then spend more time in each area. You will enjoy your home more if you focus on adding a personal touch.
Think About How You Will Use the Spaces
Before ripping out what you already have, you need to think about how you will use spaces and areas moving forwards. When you can visualize how and when you will use a space or room in your home, you can then begin to get a better feeling for what you want to create, and what vision you want to realize.
