As it goes with clothing and hair, jewelry is also subject to trends that will drastically change what’s fresh and popular from one year to the next. 2018 has been full of innovative and eye-catching trends and has provided us a glimpse into what designs debuting in 2019 hold for us. I’m particularly excited about these trends, and I look forward to seeing what other jewelry trends will rise to popularity next year.
Pave Settings
Pave (pronounced Pah-vay) ring settings are exceptionally popular and have been for a long time among those who desire a ring that has a continuous band of sparkle. These stunning settings consist of numerous small diamonds being set closely together so that there is no interruption of shine. This setting has always been particularly popular in regard to engagement rings. So, if you’re looking to propose to that special someone this year or any other year, a ring with a pave setting will make the biggest impact.
Brooches
This feature of an outfit is making a roaring comeback. Brooches easily add a touch of flair and personal style to any outfit. From the office to the club, there are styles and designs to suit every aesthetic. 2018 has seen the rise of bold statement pieces that look worlds apart from your grandmother’s old pins. I like to add a touch of something special to even my most mundane daily outfits with a carefully-chosen brooch!
Unique Statement Earrings
Now more than ever, people are loving bold, statement-making earrings. Long pieces that reach the shoulder and are constructed into elaborate designs make any outfit go from “meh” to “wow!” with minimal effort, which I am all about. From the runways to city streets, big, bold earrings have found a home for themselves once again in fashion – and it doesn’t look like this will be changing any time soon.
Big Bangles
This year’s fashion week saw a particular emphasis on bangles, particularly large and eye-catching pieces stacked on top of one another on the arm. When layered over a sweater, these pieces look like highly aesthetic cuffs that pull together and add pizzazz to any look. Truly, bangles are versatile, comfortable and so highly varied in styles that I’ve got one or three for nearly every occasion!
See-Through Baubles
Plastic, glass and lucite have joined more “traditional” jewelry materials in a big way this year, making an appearance on runways around the world. Translucent boots and bags were just the beginning. Now, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and more are crafted from these materials to add a low-key minimalist flair to your ensemble. I like to add a glass bangle to additional, more colorful bracelets for an interesting mash-up of current trends.
Of course, fashion week runways and jewelers launch many trends from year to year, all of which take off with varying degrees of success and longevity. This year’s trends are all about making a statement, being bold and unapologetically showing off your love of flair. And that, I dig.
