Teaser Tuesdays: Outlaws

I finished Outlaws by Javier Cercas last week, and even though I found it a tad slow in places, I enjoyed the writing and the philosophical insights that Cercas presents in the book.

Here are a couple of nice quotes about books and reading that I thought I’d share with you:

After I finished reading the book I remembered that I once heard a professor on TV say that a book is like a mirror and that it’s not the person who reads the book but the book that reads the person, and I thought it was true.

Here’s another quote that I liked but not sure that I agree with:

Fiction always surpasses reality but reality is always richer than fiction.

~ Outlaws by Javier Cercas

Do you think that line about fiction and reality is true?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

teasertuesdays31

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I do agree with the second quote; reality is more personal and full of emotions, senses, and options that are narrowed by the author in fiction. Great teasers. Here’s mine from Hoffman’s The Ice Queen: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-VY
