In case you are in two minds whether to participate in my literary giveaway blog hop that I have going on here till June 25, here is a teaser from one of the giveaway books, In Custody by Anita Desai that I hope will enchant you enough to participate.
That, he saw, was the glory of poets – that they could distance events and emotions, place them where perspective made it possible to view things clearly and calmly.
He realized that he loved poetry not because it made things immediate but because it removed them to a position where they became bearable.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Good teaser. It does make me wonder what the books about.
This is quite different from other books posted on Teaser Tuesday. I’m curious about it.
My Teaser is from NOT THE MARRYING
KIND.
Are you enjoying this book?

@Udita:disqus the beginning was a bit slow, and the ending a little inconclusive, but overall I liked it very much.
I’m so glad I read this post (totally entering your giveaway!) I’ve only read one short story collection by Anita Desai but it was very enchanting. I love how artsy the book cover was, as is this. Great teaser, I’m new to poetry-love but I couldn’t agree more. 🙂
@priyatabularasa:disqus yeah, I am also in love with this cover. I’ve never actually read any Anita Desai books so far. I did have issues with her writing in certain places but I was pleasantly surprised by the story and the overall good humor of the book.
Good teaser — I used to read a lot of poetry when I was younger but have gotten away from it now.
@BethFishReads:disqus I’ve never been much into poetry at any time, but in spite of that this book was enjoyable.
Never cared for poetry myself.
@Karen and Gerard me neither 🙂
