I just so love this quote from the book. I bookmarked it so I can share with you all. And the book? So far, I am in love with it. I love the wonderful setting of Akbar’s Mughal era and Medici-era Florence. Simple magical, and yes, enchanting.
As regards books, however, Akbar had changed the protocol. According to the old ways, any book that reached the imperial presence had to be read by three different commentators and had to be pronounced free of sedition, obscenity and lies. ‘In other words,’ the young king had said on ascending the throne, ‘we are only to read the most boring books ever written. Well, that won’t do at all.’
~The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Great teaser.. I had barely started reading this a couple of years ago when it was time return it to the library and somehow never got around to it again. I love Salman Rushdie’s books for children – Haroun and the Sea of Stories is among my favorites
Will definitely be back to check out more on your blog.

I listened to the audioversion of this book years ago. It was my first Rushdie book and unlike anything else I had ever read. Excellent book.
Good teaser!

I haven’t read this one but it’s on my TBR list. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it because Salman Rushtie is a talented writer.
My Teaser is from SCARLET NIGHTS.
Wonderful teaser.
@Beth F: I love this one too, the book itself is full of some nice little nuggets like this one. If I am still reading this book next week, I am sure I”ll have another teaser to post 🙂
Love it! Here is my teaser for this week.
Awesome quote! I had forgotten that his style of writing is a class apart. Would love to hear your views on the book once you are done with it.
@Shweta: I am a big fan of his writing, so I agree with you. I am really enjoying this book…don’t care about the so-so reviews on the net.
