Dev.D Disappointment and Other Movie Musings

Of late, the offerings from Bollywood have been extremely disappointing for me. I am almost afraid to watch any movies for fear that my approval of the people involved in the effort will just nose-dive.

One movie that I was looking forward to very eagerly was Dev.D. I saw the trailer of this movie on TV and I was pretty impressed, especially with the “Emotional Attyachar” song. It seemed so cool.

The lyrics are too funny. Stuff like :

Yeh dil pighla ke saaz bana loon,
dhadkan ko awaz bana loon,
smoking smoking nikle re dhooan.

and

Bol Bol why did you ditch me,
Zindagi bhi lele yaar kill me,

In addition, I have a soft corner for Abhay Deol. I saw his work in Manorama-6 Feet Under and Honeymoon Travels. My conclusion is, he is a far better actor than all the rest of the Deol family put together.

However, my good feelings about this movie changed when I read in a magazine, that Dev.D is a modernized version of Devdas.

Hmm…now do I really want to see another version of Devdas ? I don’t understand what filmmakers see in this stupid story that they want to make the film again and again. And what is so challenging about playing alcoholic / drug addict that actors line up for such roles ?

This has totally killed it for me. I just don’t want to watch another sob story about a guy who’s lost his girl. Especially, when I have seen it twice before !

Anyone still interested in watching this movie ? Please let me know how you found it. Maybe, I will check it out if I get some positive responses regarding it.

For now, I have decided that I will place my bets on Luck By Chance instead. How bad can it get ? Directed by Zoya Akhtar (the lady who directed Honeymoon Travels) and stars Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma. At least, I don’t know the story for this one ! The trailer and music also looks sooper-interesting.

Some movies that are definitely not on my Ones to Watch radar are :

  • From Chandni Chowk to China – Sounds like total bakwas. The last decent movies from Akshay Kumar were Namastey London and to an extent, Bhool Bhulaiya. Even the music in CCTC is bad. Except for Naam hai Siddu which just makes me smile whenever I hear it. People who know me well will know why 😀
  • Delhi -6 – This is supposedly a movie about the journey within. Sounds so pretentious, I could puke !

So what movies are you looking forward to watching ? English / Hindi / Tamil ?

      hey,
well if you want genuine reviews then trust me dev d shd be a must watch on your list.
this is the most amazing version of devdas till date.
the end will surprise you. its not a sob story. very eventful film with lots of good acting. dont know how modern n open minded you are with all sexuality thing. cos if you are not then i doubt you’ll like the film. cut out that luck by chance crap from your list. dev d takes the cake this time and so does anurag and abhay and both the leading ladies.

but still dont go by the numbers and reviews. go watch it and judge it or yourself.
