My Favorite Books of 2017

Looking back at 2017, it wasn’t a good reading year. After a disappointing run with books accepted for review, I decided to stick to my own reads and preferences hoping to get my reading mojo going again.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. I could keep up with reading with one kid and a baby, but with two school-going kids, and a full-time job, I have realized that reading is going to have to be on the backburner – behind homework, school projects, extra classes, office work, and numerous other things that just have to get done.

Still I did have some reading highlights that I want to share with you.

When I first expressed interest in reading Sarah Waters, a lot of bloggers recommended that I start with Fingersmith. I however ended up picking up and dropping it multiple times before actually getting into the book – so much so that even though I started this book first, I ended up dropping it and reading The Little Stranger and The Night Watch before trying this book again.

There were some reasons why this book was a bit hard for me to get into, but once I got over a certain hump in the story, the book was really enjoyable, and I raced through it.

Weekly Life Updates

OMG. I don’t know what to say about this week. All last weekend it poured heavily, there was no internet, no TV, no electricity, and no going anywhere because of the floods and trees falling. The kids were extremely bored, and so was I honestly.
I shouldn’t crib though when other places around the world are struggling with heavy rain and flooding – Texas, Mumbai, Florida. I wonder why the rains are so unusually heavy this year. Is it an El Nino thing or something?

Weekly diaries

So, I’m back with another diary style post. This week has been a bit quiet – mostly been busy with work but still I think I have enough material for a weekly diary post.

Last weekend I went to Oko to try out their Mandarin Calling food fest, and I had the best time. I’m realizing of late that events like Oko are the ones that I like and most want to attend. Great ambiance, food, a friendly PR, and the fact that I got to visit it with friends made me feel so comfortable and relaxed, and I think that genuine pleasure in the day reflects in my blog post.

I attend blog events only once a week or once in two weeks. That is partly because I don’t have too many PR contacts or blog visibility, but it is also because I turn down a lot of events that don’t interest me, fit into my day job schedule, or involve a stressful trip across town. This is also why I suck as a lifestyle blogger. Just too damn lazy.
