When I see a movie I really like, and then learn that it is based on a book. Well, then I have to immediately go read the book ASAP.
This is what happened when I saw the excellent Gone Baby Gone on Netflix. It stars Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, and a whole slew of sublime secondary characters – Morgan Freeman, John Ashton, and Ed Harris. Harris especially is the selling point for me. I almost invariably watch and enjoy every movie of his.
Anyway, it was only after watching the movie that I came to know it was based on the book by Dennis Lehane.
Of late, I have been feeling like my blogging has got a bit mechanical – a bunch of book reviews (usually done way after I have read the book), the occasional restaurant review, but I think the earlier personal note has started to go missing. Partly, because somewhere along the way I started doing book reviews for publishers and food posts for restaurants (meaning I have a deadline), and basically the blog has started feeling more business-like, than like a personal blog.
I can’t say I can go completely back to the old tone and content as i no longer feel like I am writing solely for friends and family. But I also don’t want the blog to exist merely as a database of places to go, and books to read. I don’t know how the new style will evolve but I plan to have a little more about my daily life and routines, things I am thinking, what the kids are doing/saying to me, and so on.
Let’s see how things evolve. Old readers, I hope you will like my going back to more of what made you read my blog read in the first place, newer readers, I hope you find reading about the person behind the blog as interesting as the blog itself.

I was so super-efficient that evening, wrapped up dinner, put both the kids to sleep, and then settled down on the sofa to peaceably watch it on the telly. ...
I've been looking forward to this movie ever since I read (and loved) the book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.
I did have my doubts how the super-bland Ben Affleck would look and perform in the role, but going by the trailer he seems to have nailed it.
There have been a few hints thrown around ...
Here's a juicy update for fans of the book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. This book made my top 6 books of the year list in 2013 and I have been avidly waiting for news of the movie.
Here's a cover of Entertainment Weekly featuring the stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
