A couple of weeks ago, I got the opportunity to travel to Assam and Meghalaya.
Before starting off, I wanted to do a post here, and find out from you all about the must-see places there.
However, I was so caught up tying loose ends at work and home that I wasn’t even able to post a tweet or Insta about my plans, forget about an actual full-blown blog post. Anyway, we had a basic itinerary planned, and we just went with that.
When I saw the itinerary, it felt like we would easily be able to cover all the places we’d planned to visit.
Unfortunately, we hadn’t counted on a couple of things:
- The extremely early sunset. By 4pm, dusk would start to fall, and by 5, all sight-seeing was practically useless.
- The long extremely winding mountain roads in Meghalaya meant that even short distances took an extraordinarily long time to cover.
Despite these issues, we managed to visit a lot of places in a short amount of time, and even spend quality time at every place.
In Meghalaya, we visited the massive Umiam Lake, the crystal-clear Umngot river, the Bangladesh border, and multiple places in Cherrapunji (the rainiest place in the world).
In Assam, we spent some quality time in Kaziranga National Park – which is the home to the extremely rare one-horned rhino. We also relaxed at one of the tea estates close by.
