Saturday drinks and lunch at Misu

If you are ever in or around the city center, and in the mood for Pan-Asian, I can highly recommend Misu to you. Located in St.Marks Road, it is an easy walk from MG Road, UB City, Residency Road, and Church Street, and in quality miles better than the other restaurants serving Chinese food in these parts.

With that very strong statement, let’s get on to the photos and the menu recommendations.

They have a very interesting offer available called the Ninja meal. The rates are Rs.777/- for veg, and Rs.888/- for non-veg. For this price, you can get to choose one soup or salad, one appetizer, one dimsum or sushi, one stir fry and curry, fried rice, or noodles, and a dessert.

Sounds pretty good no? We thought so too. Here’s what all we managed to eat.

To start with, we ordered some drinks (not included in the Ninja menu).

I loved the Mango Margarita, it was just note-perfect. Another favorite was a lychee and gin concoction (the one on the extreme left). I’d recommend both these drinks highly.

I also really love that Misu doesn’t water their drinks. So many place, you can barely make out you are drinking alcohol, but that’s not the case with Misu. Their cocktails are proper cocktails.

Their mocktail range is also really nice if you are not into alcohol.

And now the food.

Hot and sour soup

I ordered a Shanghai Hot and Sour soup, and this was lovely – just the right amount of tangy and spice. Someone in the table ordered a plate of wontons, and those were also awesome – just vanished within minutes.

It was then the turn of the dimsums and sushi. I ordered the Moonshine dumpling, which contained a filling of Bok Choy and mushroom.

This was heaven.

In fact, forgive me for being repetitive, but everything that I tried at Misu was excellent, and really tasty. It’s one of my all-time favorite meals (especially when I consider the prices). This is high-quality at decent rates.

With regards sushi, I loved the sushi I sampled too. I tried the spicy tofu avocado maki, and it was good. I generally find the wasabi a bit too eye-wateringly strong at most sushi places. Here the wasabi was just right.

We tried eating sushi with chopsticks and some of us were more skilled than others. Clumsy me not only managed to drop the sushi, but also broke it in half and ended up eating pieces of it.

Then came the main course. At most restaurants by this time I have lost interest in food, or am simply too full. But Pan-Asian food is nice because it’s light on the tummy. Also, Misu serves small servings of everything leaving you still feeling reasonably light. Of course, this might not work for you if you are a heavy eater or want large servings. But if that is the case, you can opt for their regular menu and it will work for you.

Anyway back to the food. For the mains, I ordered stir-fried vegetables with chili garlic basil. Now this dish (along with the soup) was the perfect comfort food. The rice that accompanied the vegetables was perfectly sticky, and overall this was a dish I simply loved. When next I visit Misu, I am (very unadventurous of me) going to reorder this dish again.

I’d also highly recommend the Thai wok fried rice.

For dessert, I tried the Japanese souffle cheesecake, and an ice cream sandwich (lemongrass).

Both desserts were very light, and quite different in taste from the usual desserts I have.

everything looks so good, from the drinks to the dessert. I like the idea that the servings were small enough that you could enjoy all the courses.
