Teaser Tuesdays: Lady Audley’s Secret

After a spate of Young Adult, Fantasy, and dystopia, reading Lady Audley’s Secret is a pleasant change of pace. It’s fast-moving but extremely descriptive at the same time, and I am loving it so far 🙂 .

Here is the first paragraph of the book that describes Audley Court:

Audley Court lay down in a hollow, rich with fine old timber and luxuriant pastures.

You came upon it through an avenue of limes, bordered on either side by meadows, over the high hedges of which the cattle looked inquisitively at you as you passed, wondering, perhaps what you wanted; for there was no thoroughfare, and unless you were going to the Court, you could have no business in that sheltered roadway.

~ Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon

Doesn’t this paragraph just have you all dreamy?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

@disqus_Wk0BCUkdBq:disqus I am really enjoying this one too. Which other books by her do you recommend?

I’m sort of late answering this. I’ve read about half a dozen books by Braddon and enjoyed them all. The most recent which I only finished a couple of weeks ago is Wyllard’s Weird. It was a killer book! I was wondering at the beginning and it’s one of those books where you know how it is going to end quite early in the book, but yet I was still breathlessly reading to see how they would get to the end. It’s long, but also free, as most of hers are at Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50037

I love the description of that beautiful setting. I want to be there! I hope you’re enjoying the story.
My Tuesday post features SAMUEL & SOPHIA.

Oh, yes! That is quite dreamy. I love it. I’m reading something a bit different than what I have been reading lately too. Although not much different, now that I think about it. I can’t seem to pull myself away from the mysteries as of late. Not that I’m complaining. 🙂

@literaryfeline:disqus It’s always nice to read something a little different from your usual genre 🙂

Thank you Nishita for popping over to my site – I haven’t had the pleasure of this classic read, though thoroughly enjoyed your opening sequence:). As for The Thousand Names, it’s great fun.
