Stephen King is known for his horror, but in my opinion he doesn’t get enough credit for how well he sets a scene.
Here’s an excerpt where he describes very neatly the character of the town:
The town is the people who live there, the buildings which they have erected to den or do business in, and it is the land.
The people are Scotch-English and French.
There are others, of course – a smattering, like a fistful of pepper thrown in a pot of salt, but not many. This melting pot never melted very much.

Btw, this is one scary book. I am wincing every time I hear of yet another person’s death. Have you read this book? Did you find it scary?

Not only have I read this one, but I loved it! It’s the first Stephen King book I read. Several decades ago and I still remember it.

Most of Stephen King’s novels are too scary for me! But the writing in the ones I’ve managed to read has been superb. You’re right — his description is wonderful.
