Diwali Shopping Inspiration

I spent the last few days in shopping malls doing all sorts of fun stuff but one of the milder and least expensive timepasses in the malls was people watching and checking out what all the fashionable ladies were wearing in the malls. I was quite surprised to see the fashion was so varied from the shortest of short clothes to the most covered up but gorgeously embroidered hijabs, which had me drooling at their style and which reminded me of some of the gorgeous anarkalis that used to be popular a few years ago in India.

Remember Aishwarya Rai used to wear them all the time during her pregnancy?

At that time I thought anarkalis wouldn’t suit someone on the shorter side like me, but after seeing these women rock their long hijabs, it made me think that I should at least try out a couple of anarkalis to actually see if they suit me or not.

Here are a few anarkali suits online that I spotted and am seriously considering. I found these anarkalis on Zohraa – an e-commerce site that stocks a wide range of apparel: salwar suits, sarees, jeans, tops, lingerie, tunics, stoles and other materials, accessories, footwear, cosmetics and personal care.

I love the black and yellow color combination and the embroidery on the yellow one. I also love how rich it looks while still being easy on the pocket. It’s also very versatile and should suit all body types.

Another suit I love is the one below.

I love the rich pink hue and the royal look of this one, especially love the zari style border. Both the above suits look so elegant and understated, just perfect for wearing to weddings, parties, and other festive occasions. They are both perfect for people like me who are hesitant about the full-on anarkali look.

However, take a look at this one in the total anarkali style.

I love this anarkali the best, the colors are fabulous. How I wish I was as tall as Nargis Fakhri in that picture though. You really need the height to get the most out of such a long anarkali.

One of the nice things about Zohraa is that for some of the garments there is an option to get unstitched or semi-stitched material, so if you have a tailor you trust, you can just buy the material online and get it tailored to fit you by your local tailor.

Anyway, I am seriously considering getting one for Diwali especially considering that Zohraa has slashed their prices, it really is the perfect time to shop a couple of pieces.

Some other nice things about Zohraa are their chat options with their sales assistants, world-wide shipping, support for larger sizes, and social media savvy.

So, I will probably be gifting myself an anarkali this Diwali. What will you be shopping for this Diwali?

    Oh how you tempt me!
I do love the last one so much; but it’ll be difficult for me to pull it off. So beautiful though. 🙂

@Laavanya: Difficult for me also to pull off, Laavanya. That’s why I just posted the pic, I am not going to actually buy it.

Hey, good idea.. Anarkalis are in absolutely. Go for the one that Nargis Fakhri is wearing. I am loving it.

@manjulikapramod:disqus I know, it’s so gorgeous. The only thing stopping me is that with the low-key lifestyle I have, if I wore this, I would be over-dressed for every occasion 🙁
