Dinner at Yauatcha

I’ve been wanting to visit the restaurants in the spanking new 1 MG Road mall for ages, and I was beyond thrilled when we finally got the chance to try Yauatcha – the far-east Asian restaurant that has opened there.

We had some great food and great drinks and although pricey, it was worth it as the food was very, very good.

We started with the dimsums. I tried the crispy vegetable cheung fun and K tried the crispy prawn cheung fun. I ordered a ginger martini which was rum spiked with lime, and a dash of ginger. Totally delicious and I highly recommend it. K ordered a vodka-based martini that was quite strong, nevertheless, very tasty, and I also recommend it but only if you are not driving later.

The dimsums were good but not great, and there were just way too many of them. We ended up feeling stuffed at the end of the starter course itself.

As a main course, we ordered jasmine rice with a side of braised tofu in a claypot, and vegetable stir-fry udon noodles. K also ordered a prawn side dish.

The food was very good. The portions of the main course was quite small, which was quite surprising. We could have done with a lot less of the dimsums, and a lot more of the main course, which was absolutely delicious.

And even though we were super stuffed, I was not going to get up from the table without trying out their desserts.

We ordered a chocolate hazelnut mousse and a mango mascarpone gâteau. The mango gâteau comes with a litchi sorbet and the sorbet was a little too sour for my taste. I stuck to the chocolate hazelnut mousse, which was absolutely sublime. It came with a honeycomb ice-cream (and I have no idea what that is), but it was love all the way through.

What a great dinner we had! I will definitely come here again. The next time though, I am going to skip the dimsums, order some soup, and have single portions of the main course, so I don’t have to share all that delicious noodles and rice with anybody else.

Highly recommend this place. It is a little on the expensive side, but if you go in a big group and share a lot of stuff, you can make it worth the money.

Looks like a great meal. I too often skip the appetizers so I can enjoy the meal and the dessert!

@BethFishReads:disqus Yes, it was a great meal. I love appetizers but not in huge quantities.

The cheung fun looks very authentic (though my preference is not the crispy one), and it’s kind of a relief to realise you get it in Bangalore though in very pricey environs. I have slight panic about moving back to India and not being able to find dim sum. In Hong Kong, dim sum can actually comprise of an entire meal, and it’s rare to find it at night, though now there are some places offering a selection for dinner.

@The Bride Thanks for visiting and commenting. As far as I know, this place offers close to an authentic far-east experience. The desserts were a little out of sync though – macaroons, and gelato, and sorbet, but still I enjoyed them. They were fantastic.

I like dimsums, but a whole meal of dimsums is a bit much for me.
