I am still a little book-weary. I’ve been feeling tired and drained and unmotivated to do anything other than sacking out on the couch. Usually, the sack out is accompanied by a book, but these last couple of months have been so crazy that my tired brain just can’t focus on anything right (not even books).
So, this month when Penguin Random House emailed me to ask which books I’d like to read, I chose the two lightest books in their kitty.
- Jeeves and the Wedding Bells by Sebastian Faulks
- Delhi Mostly Harmless by Elizabeth Chatterjee
I am really looking forward to Jeeves and the Wedding Bells. I am a huge fan of P.G.Wodehouse, and this book is an homage to his writing and his world. I love the Wodehousian characters of Jeeves and Wooster, and this book is just perfect for me to read on Christmas noonday.
Delhi Mostly Harmless is a bit of an unknown to me. It’s supposedly a travelogue featuring Delhi (as far as I can make out from the blurb at the back of the book). It sounds interesting, and in spite of all the bad press, I’ve only had good experiences when I travel to Delhi, and I would love to read a woman’s take on what life in Delhi actually was like for her.

The other book that I received for review is a romance. Gasp! I actually don’t do romances – don’t read them, don’t blog about them. They existed in my world sometime during the late 90s and then I never read them again. But, like I said, my brain is tired and wiped out and maybe a Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Mills n Boon will turn out to be a couple of hours of mindless entertainment.
The book I got actually has two stories – Ripped by Sarah Morgan and Fearless by Tawny Weber. Both these authors are unknown to me, but then, I am quite clueless about authors in the romance genre.

Ick, romance is definitely not my genre either. I never did go through a Mills and Boons phase, even though apparently it’s some sort of female reader milestone. I’ve read a lot about the Wodehouse spinoff (not great things) and I don’t mind trying it out. However, I think I’ll stick to finishing the Wodehouse books I haven’t read (most of them, fortunately for me) before giving this one a shot. The Delhi book looks really interesting! I was I’m Delhi last month and the city charmed me into falling madly in love with it. Will definitely keep an eye out for that one. Would love to know what you thought of it!
@parinitashetty:disqus Oh, it is a female reader milestone. If not for that, there are other similarly icky books – Barbara Cartland, Danielle Steele, Barbara Taylor Bradford, and so many, many others 🙂

I like romance books when I’m really busy or stressed – I like a happy ending. I’ve never read a Mills&Boon though! (I need to change that). I like quite a few Aussie romance authors – Rachael Johns, Carla Caruso and Nicole Flockton. I also enjoyed my first Jackie Collins recently.

@samstillreading:disqus Mills n Boon are romance-lite, at least in my language. I really can’t do a 300 odd page romance (unless there is a lot more to the story than romance). I must check your recommendations though, that is, if we get them here.
I got the Faulks too. Waiting for Christmas holiday to begin reading 🙂 Delhi Mostly Harmless is quiet irreverent and fun too.
As for Romance reads , my current go to author id Courtney Milan. She is fantastic! I have read my share of Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel, they have turned too formulaic.
