Teaser Tuesdays: Mad About the Boy

Am I the only one finding it odd that the tone of Bridget Jones’ diary entries at 50 years of age is so similar to those diary entries when she was 30? The references to weight, the obsessive keeping track of events, the general writing style itself gives me such a sense of déjà vu.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I always thought people’s writing style change as they age.

Here’s an example entry from her diary. What do you think? Does it sound like something a 50-something lady would write?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

    I haven’t read the other books but I sure hope I’m not writing like that when I’m 50.

    Re: Mailbox Monday – could you please look at my post and comment?

      @ginaabookdragon:disqus I hope I don’t write like that either LOL 😀

    I think it’s more that you don’t expect a married (or widowed, I guess) mom to still be keeping a diary. We tend to think of diaries as a single girl’s thing. Rightly or wrongly. That said, I won’t be reading this because I was SO let down by the second book.

      @laurafrey:disqus I don’t know about that…a diary seems like an ageless thing to me. What I don’t get is the calorie counting at age 50, I have already grown out of that and I am in my 30s

      @vonnier:disqus you know, you’re right…maybe she is one of those 🙂

    I want to…need to…read this, but I so fear I will be disappointed.

      @55007f8272e408967bd9a4b1db238a28:disqus don’t get your expectations too high. it’s not a bad book once it gets going but the start is quite clunky.
