I think most bloggers will relate to Nao’s thoughts from A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki.
It made me sad when I caught myself pretending that everybody out there in cyberspace cared about what I thought, when really nobody gives a shit. And when I multiplied that sad feeling by all the millions of people in their lonely little rooms, furiously writing and posting to their lonely little pages that nobody has time to read because they’are all so busy writing and posting, it kind of broke my heart.
Note, Nao (the protagonist) is in her early teens, and these are thoughts she’s penning down in her diary, so the writing sounds a little juvenile in places.
and then one day I happened to check my statistics, and I realised that the whole time since I started my blog, only twelve people had ever visited it…. so that’s when I stopped. There’s nothing sadder than cyberspace when you’re floating around out there, all alone, talking to yourself.

Nao sounds like an interesting character. I think it would be fun to read a story about a blogger.

@Sandra: Nao is very interesting indeed and so is the book. Not sure I would call it fun though. Nao is a teenage girl who is badly bullied in school and certain parts of her story are terribly wrenching.

I totally feel that; it’s a bit disappointing when you realize no one cared or even saw your post haha, but oh well, gotta keep on trucking right! Awesome teasers, I love the cover of this book. I haven’t read any Ruth Ozeki, but she’s on list! Thanks for sharing.

I have been blogging for more than an year now. And (touchwood!) have not been bothered much with traffic/blog stats. I started as an anonymous writer and even today only a few of my friends know about it. But yes, when there appears a like or a comment on what I write it feels like a bonus or a genuine compliment. 🙂
@dreamzandcloudz: It’s great that stats don’t bother you. I started out that same way in Blogger, but somehow when I moved to WordPress, seeing the Stats dashboard everyday was not so great. Whether I was interested in stats or not, it was right up front and center
