Gourmet Indulgence at The Pink Poppadom with Four Seasons Wines

After what seems like ages (actually it’s been ages), K and I went on a proper dinner together sans the littles.

Gourmet Indulgences is a mega-campaign launched in 6 cities in India to pair the high-quality Four Seasons Wines with some equally high-quality food. I received an invite for 2 and this way K and I fulfilled a dream of trying out some experimental fine dining Indian food.

The venue we chose was The Pink Poppadom at Hyatt. We tried their tasting menu and paired up the food with some amazing Cabernet Sauvignon by Four Seasons Wines.

Suffice to say, the food, wine, and hotel decor was mega-awesome. We went on a sunday night when it was pouring heavily outside. The end result was that we had a quiet place to ourselves. The hostess at the restaurant offered us pool-side seating, which would normally not be available on busier days.

We settled in with the wine and waited for the evening to unfurl. One of the wonderful things I realized about a tasting/set menu is that there is no confusion about placing the order. You just relax and let the staff do the work for you. Considering that the food is experimental, this is a real blessing, I would never have known what to order.

Anyway, onto the food. We started off with some amazing Dhora mulligatawny soup that was as tasty as it was good-looking.

Next came the ricotta cheese kebab, which I loved and was my favorite of the evening. It’s the perfect starter.

Then came the second starter. The gomashio aloo looked very good, but the real star of this course was the Fig and Walnut seekh. K’s shrimps and chicken starters were also very delish.

Now, finally on to the main course. By now, I was seriously stuffed but still managed to dig into this. The paneer is a kind of tikka on rice, very tasty, but seriously filling. The vegetable strudel was lovely, crumbly, with just the right amount of spice. This immediately became my second-favorite dish.

To clean the palate before dessert, they offered a kala ghatta ice gola, which was unexpected and very yummy. However, because of both our colds, we couldn’t really dig into it.

Dessert then followed with small helpings of crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and baked yoghurt. The crème brûlée and cake were nice, but the baked yoghurt was very tangy and perfect for after a heavy meal. Highly recommend this unique and tasty dessert.

After the dessert, we thought we were done, only to find that something else was on its way, and that something else was the paan shot. At this stage, I was too woozy to remember what’s in the shot, but it again was delicious and minty. Pretty inventive! I’ve never tried one like this before.

So, that was our awesome night, peoples! Dinner felt so luxurious, and so unreal honestly, we didn’t want to get out of the place. It was pouring outside so we took the opportunity to lounge around awhile and sober up before we head back.

Huge thanks to Four Seasons Wines and The Pink Poppadom, Hyatt for their lovely hospitality. This program was run in association with Poshvine. A lot of hard work went into this, I am sure, to make it such a successful event. Bloggers from major cities in India have participated in this program and co-coordinating these efforts can’t have been easy.

We were thoroughly pampered by the staff and can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. It’s just great for a relaxing evening out.

@Ava: It absolutely was. We don’t normally go to high-end places so this was a real treat 🙂
