Cooking (and other things) With the Snubnose

I don’t post much about my cooking on my blog primarily because I am neither a good cook nor a good photographer. Of late though, the snubnose has become super-interested in cooking, and hence we have been having some cooking lessons.

Once in a while something turns out looking and tasting lip-smacking delicious, and I thought I’d post some stuff we do together on this blog.

We started off with fireless cooking where she learned to make sandwiches and juices/smoothies.

Here are a couple of photos of what we did…she did the first one all by herself and it was waiting ready for me to eat when I got off work. Isn’t it pretty neat? I was quite moved by the gesture 😊.

Couple of weekends back, we upgraded her skills to pizza. We used red and yellow peppers, and mushrooms for the topping.

We used a combination of mozzarella, ricotta and our good ole desi paneer to make the pizza super cheesy, and then added a little basil to get some Italian flavor.

Snubnose was super-thrilled at the way her first cooking attempt (by fire) went. She did get a teensy, weensy little burn on her little finger though 🙁 .

We used the left over peppers and mushrooms to mix into a delish omelet for the next day’s breakfast 😀. She sat out safely away from the fire and just observed this one.

We’ve also tried our own version of macaroni and cheese, which everyone loves, and it has become a staple in our house. It looks just like a generic white mass, so no photo here to show you 😀.

Apart from continental food, she has also started learning to boil rice, and make idlis. She’s become quite the little kitchen helper.

Another interest that she seems to be developing is an interest in knitting. My mom is extremely talented and she has knitted a lot of sweaters for snubnose and me. After seeing my mom knit, the snubnose is determined to learn how to knit. Unfortunately, I know only the very basics, and it’s now upto my mom to teach her.

This weekend, my mom is visiting armed with knitting needles and wool to start off the snubnose. I really don’t think she is ready for it yet, but of late, I see that I am underestimating snubnose all the time.

In my last post, I thought she wasn’t ready for Charlotte’s Web. Turns out she was and more. She read the book last week, and even wrote up a small synopsis of the story for her school assignment. I was pleasantly surprised!

I just noticed that my post is all peppered with smileys. Bad writing, but I can’t help it, that’s just the way I feel about Snubnose and her enthusiasms.

I havent tried making a pizza so far. It looks so drool-worthy 🙂
Looks like she is multifaceted, with so many interests.

@Ava: Oh, it’s super easy. I just fried the peppers and the mushrooms before hand, and roasted the paneer pieces separately. Snubnose arranged the mozarella and ricotta cheese evenly on the pizza, then dumped the veggies on top, flattened it on the pizza, and then added basil. Into the oven it went :). The pizza base was store-bought, pizza is difficult only if you are making the base also at home 🙂

How fun to progress along with cooking. I love the pizza. Oh and what a great idea to start with no-heat recipes. I love to knit, but haven’t picked up my needles in a long, long time.

I enjoy cooking (I’m not much of a baker, I absolutely hate baking cakes etc). From the pictures, it sure looks like you can cook.

PS; I don’t like macaroni and cheese, I must be one of few!

There are also a lot of actual peppers in this post!

    Don’t worry, it’s a mum’s job to under estimate her daughter. 🙂

@dreamzandclouds: Oh, there are a great many things she doesn’t do, trust me :). It’s not that she’s particularly talented in cooking/knitting/reading, it’s just that she’s very interested, and I love to encourage that interest 🙂
