Teaser Tuesdays – Another Teaser from Gone Girl

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This has been a slower read than I expected. Not in a bad way, but just that I am taking my time with it. This is a book where I want to take it slow.

The quality of the writing is also very good, and it definitely has plenty of teaser-worthy quotes. I showcased the first teaser of this book last week here. And here’s another thought-provoking one…

I don’t know that we are actually human at this point, those of us who are like most of us, who grew up with TV and movies and not the Internet. If we are betrayed, we know the words to say; when a loved one dies, we know the words to say. If we want to play the stud or the smart-ass or the fool, we know the words to say. We are all working from the same dog-eared script.

It’s a very difficult era in which to be a person, just a real, actual person, instead of a collection of personality traits selected from an endless automat of characters.

And if all of us are play-acting, there can be no such thing as a soul mate, because we don’t have genuine souls.

~ Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Quite an unexpected level of introspection in a thriller novel, isn’t it? I definitely understand why this book has received so much accolades. As for me, I can’t quite say it works as a thriller, but I love what I have read so far anyway. And I reserve judgment on the thriller angle till the time I finish this book.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

[…] Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – I haven’t posted a review of this book yet on my blog. It didn’t quite work well enough as a thriller and parts of the book are a little uneven, but it’s a great social commentary on marriage and dating. It’s incredibly dark and twisted and funny at the same time and I love it inspite of everything. I have posted some teasers here and here […]
